Third break light out question
Third break light out question
My third break light is not working on my 2010 GT. I ordered the Bentley refit kit but I have a question. All other threads mention a dash warning light coming on when their third break light does not work. I don't have anything coming up on my dash. Am I just assuming that the light has failed or is there something else I should check before I start cutting out the third break light?
Don't know if there's a separate fuse for the 3d brake light but a lot of good info here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ent-howto.html
Hello @zissis ,
Please see edit below also.
As Bruce said, there is good information in the thread by @Zaos , BUT, there is one catch, and that is, being that you have a 2010, then the belief is that you do not need the saw to cut off the lip of the CHMSL, as to my understanding, some time in 2009 or so the newly redesigned light has no lip, and as can be seen in my rebuild thread starting at post number 294 and on to 301, I did not need to use the saw to remove my light that did infact have the lip, nor did I use a slap hammer to remove, just some plastic trim tools to pry up a little at a time.
So, take a look at your light in place, see if you can see a lip or not, if it has a lip from factory, see if it moves freely, and is not firmly stuck in the glass adhesive, mine wasn't, and came out freely without hassle.
It would be interesting to see if your 2010 has a lip, as I wondered if the redesigned light was only for servicing the vehicle, and that the factory installed lights still had the lip.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the point on the fuse, no, I have never found a seperate fuse for just the high mount stop light, it's wiring comes from the rear body control module, which has a fuse, but then that RBCM controls other items also.
Iirc, I didn't get the fault message all the time, but not sure my light was failing all the time, mostly when caught in the rain, because of the cracks in my light, I had let it dry out, then placed black electrical tape over the whole top of the light, end to end, the light always functioned then, and no warning, but the tape and the cracks showing through looked hideous...
I take it that you have had this 2010 fir a bit, and you know 100% that the light has functioned properly in your ownership, therefore there is not a chance that the light has never worked in your presence, so to know that a possible previous owner did not place a resistor in the wiring for the light to fool the RBCM, hence, no warning at all in the DIS.

@Johnny Hotspur GT I wiggled the corner and it does move about .5 - 1 mm or so. I am still waiting for flying spares to get the parts shipped but once shipped I will attempt the dreaded removal and re-install. I like how you just drilled a hole for the wire. Any water ingress that you know of since the refit?
