Anyone familiar with the 2006 +/- Flying Spur etc

Could use a hand with some VCDS troubleshooting, etc (I have one on order should be delivered next week).

Just picked up this 2006 Bentley Flying Spur, and it has an 'immobil active' on the instrument cluster screen (car starts then immediately dies/shuts itself off - was towed to me).

The previous owner may have replaced an engine ECU or both (I found an ebay receipt in the car).. perhaps they just switched the ECU without having it programmed..?

The ECU locations in the car seem to be located on the passenger side (USA model) of the engine, with one ECU mounted on top of the other.. is it safe to assume the master ECU is the top one?

If anyone is in the area, I would love to connect. Happy to buy beer, lunch, compensate you for your time, etc - see if we can get this thing running!

Thank you! Cheers

Hello @mrc00l88 ,
Welcome to 6speedonline !
As to your IMMO issue, I take it the the keyfobs both work to lock and unlock the vehicle, the engine starting and cutting out after 2 seconds is the immo kicking in, if the KESSY module was the issue, then your keyfobs would not unlock or lock the doors or trunk lid, the engine dieing after 2 seconds is definitely a sign of non matched engine ECU'S, I just went through the same a bit back, the keyfob, KESSY and ECU'S fail the immo challenge, therefore you must have the ECU'S programed to match, or as I did with the 2011 ECU'S, I shut off the challenge by way of rewriting the bin file.

When you say ecu on top of the other, i hope you mean front to back, not that the ECU'S are laying in the cowl top to bottom.

You can call me at 908-507-6357

Thank you very much, Johnny. You're an invaluable resource here. I can open the trunk by pressing the 'B' emblem (sometimes works better than others) - I haven't tried locking/unlocking the doors yet with they key fob, but I do notice that at least on the driver door (haven't checked any others) that the 'soft close' door feature does not seem to work (not sure if that has anything tied to the Kessy or if other module(s)). I will be by the car in the next day or so to do more troubleshooting.

Regarding the ECUs in the engine bay, I haven't taken things apart yet, but collecting research per the image below (I believe it might be yours ), I was guesstimating the ECUs stack on top of each other (located to the right of the fuse box) - is that the correct location? If they are positioned front to back, is the front most ECU #1, and the back ECU #2? Front definition would be from standing in front of the car looking in toward the windshield.

Also hoping they didn't replace both ECUs.. if they only replaced one, then it appears I could just have the correct one cloned.. but if both ECUs were for some reason replaced/don't have the correct VIN/programming, where would I go from there? Can the VIN or whatnot just be programmed to a used ECU, or must an ECU be fully cloned from an existing working ECU, or would I need to remove the IMMO in that case (any other options, can I find a Kessy and 2 ECUs from a wrecked Bentley that all came from the same VIN/vehicle)? When you removed the IMMO from your ECUs, do you receive any error message or key displayed on the instrument cluster (any ill effects from doing that)? May be getting ahead of myself, but before I order Carprog/Ktag/etc is cloning something you can do (if in fact one of the ECUs is mismatched), if I send the ECUs to you?

I will report back/give you a ring in the next day or so when I get to the car (PS from Jersey myself), VCDS should arrive tomorrow. I am hoping that VCDS will read everything, and then show me the VINs of each ECU, so that could be an easy determining factor if one ECU is mismatched. Thanks again. Have a wonderful evening. Cheers

Hi Johnny, so I believe all appears ok aside from the ECUs.
Not sure why whomever swapped ECUs to begin with, but both ECUs show a different VIN number looking at each module in VCDS.
Found a receipt in the car that someone purchased a pair of used ECUs from a donor car.
VCDS actually shows the cars VIN as the VIN the ECUs came from (my guess is VCDS reads the VIN from the ECU then populates it in VCDS?).
Either way that VIN of the ECUs (both) obviously doesn't match all the other modules in the car.
I'm going to try KTag/Vag Commander/VagTacho, see if I can read the EEPROM in one of the original modules and subsequently of the ECUs to gain the PIN code.
Fresh VCDS scan after clearing all codes/before attempting to start the vehicle (removed modules with no fault) below.
I have PM'ed you a couple of questions.

Thank you!
