When I bought my ‘07 CGT, I noticed the windscreen was quite heavily scored by the wiper blades. There are also some lighter vertical scratches on the drivers side window, likely where the glass has been moved up and down and the dirty weather stripping has rubbed against it over the years.
I managed to remove most of the windscreen scoring with a glass polishing pad and compound on a DA. All good.
I’d now like to do the same to the offending side window, but I’ve been put off by the fact that my cars build sheet states that it has IR side and rear glass, but not IR windscreen glass:
Got to admit, I know very little when it comes to automotive glazing but I’m assuming that the side and rear glass has some kind of coating which prevents Infra Red light entering the cabin. I’m worried I might damage this coating with the polishing compound.
I seem to see a lot of Flying Spurs with a strange looking gold tint to the edges of the side glass, could this be damage to the IR coating caused by excessive cleaning/polishing?
