Hi all,
I have a 2009 Continental GT Speed that has developed an intermittent wiper issue. The wipers were not working at all so I checked all the fuses, including in the fuse box under the scuttle, and all were OK. I replaced them anyway just in case. Still no wipers then all of a sudden they started working again. I went out to the car yesterday to take it for MOT and, surprise surprise, they didn't work again. The mechanic had a look and checked the fuses again then noticed that if the wipers were left switched on the motor was getting hot. There is no noise being made and no signs of movement of the wipers at all?
Could the motor be faulty?
Can the motor be replaced on it's own or does the full assembly need replacing?
Even if the motor can be replaced on its own which option is preferable?
Any ideas on how to replace either would be greatly appreciated.
Hello @Kpgall ,
If the wiper motor is getting hot when in the on position, I would definitely be checking the linkage for any corrosion/binding points, BUT, if the wiper arms moved freely when they suddenly started working, then I would be looking at the motor, as the motor getting hot and failing to spin is a sign of the linkage jammed, or the armature itself being jammed, be it by either the clips holding the magnets in place have been dislodged from their mounting points, same with the magnets themselves, or a possibility of improper drainage of the cowl area, therefore the motor being submerged in water, therefore corrosion inside the motor housing.
So removal of the wiper linkage motor assembly is in order to diagnose.
