Seeking some help with e46 m3
There are plenty of nice E46 M3's around, especially 04+ models. Most are still under factory warranty, and if not, go for a CPO model.
M3's are generally pretty affordable to maintain. The S54 does need valve adjustments every 50-60k miles (??) which is a little pricey, ~$1000.

I will update time to time.
Looks like the S5 will sticker for about $56k with the available option packages. I say get a 335i coupe for $50k, throw on some coilovers and a turbo tuner, and still keep $3k in your pocket. 335 with proper suspension will be way more fun than an S5. S5 is damn sexy though.

btw guys, i need it later spring of 08 so i still got some time to search.
it won't be a problem if i stick with e46 m3 but if i get a new car, i should decide what i am going to order. (since it takes about 3 months to get it)
Quick question, how does CPO work?
Do you have to get the used car from BMW dealer to get CPO?

yeah look wise, S5 looks awesome but many people said that 335i is superior over S5 when it comes down to performance

what about a cayman S? theres nothing bmw has that will handle as well as that car except for maybe the csl and even then its not mid engined which to me is such a great thing to have in a car.
your fam owns the dealership, cant you get hooked up?
yea...my dads side of the family are part owners (theres 2) of a dealership in long island. i will be buying another car in 08 and i was prob going to get a cayenne turbo...but now im very interested in the 135i that will be here in the spring.
the other thing is my dad is looking to open up a high end used car dealership so im hoping that will go through and then its gonna be like a kid in a candy store because ill be able to do whatever i want with pretty much any car i want (up to a point obv)
and i also know a multiple people who are wholesalers, and they can prob get me even better prices than my fams dealership can...a couple weeks ago my dad almost picked up a maserati spyder with 4K miles for 37K!

M3's can be as cheap to maintain as a Nissan/Infiniti if you're a DIY type of guy. Comparing against the cost of Nissan/Infiniti parts, some parts cost similar (especially if you know where to buy them!), some parts cost much more. The consumable fluids seem to cost the most; castrol tws costs $9-15/liter (x6), diff oil costs around $75/pint (x3), tranny fluid costs around $25/liter (x3), coolant costs around $30/gallon. The castrol tws engine oil is a VERY good oil (group 4/5 hybrid) so I think it's worth it.
The local dealers around me wanted $30/spark plug when the exact same NGK spark plug on sparkplugs.com cost $12/plug -- similar to the cost of NGK plugs for Nissan/Infiniti.
The only other consumable part that caught me by surprise were the brake pads. A full set cost me around $200! Then again, the Hawk HP Plus I had before did not fit correctly so there was an annoying click/rattle when driving over bumps.
