Rolling start + DCT = absolutely fair chance for an M to run with a c63.

How does the DCT perform in fully automatic mode? Is it a big improvement over the SMG for daily driving?

Ive never driven an SMG car or a DCT obviously. If the car is in manual mode will it still shift for you if you dont like most cars with paddles or is it a true manual? I know in my IS 250 (which is in no way a sports car) in manual mode if you dont up shift it will for you anyway. What about the Benz? Same thing or is that more of an auto car?

Thanks

You'll have to excuse my skepticism on this. I suppose it's possible, but I really just don't see the M3 pulling away from a C63, regardless of the transmission...it can't compete with the AMG's overwhelming amount of brute force. The M3 should have shined down low with its lower weight and more aggressive gearing and then started to fade as the speeds increased...I've never heard of an AMG getting slower as the speeds increased.

BUUUT, even if it is true, the AMG still has 6.3 liters of engine to play with, it won't take much in the way of modifications to ensure that it wins every single time.

Tuskir has a spectacular aura aboutTuskir has a spectacular aura about
Anything can happen on the street, but C63 has close to 500hp (all 63's make similar power, C63 is underrated) and 445lb-ft torque in comparison to M3's 420hp and 295lb-ft torque, so it should've won easily from a roll. Pretty much every comparison showed C63 be significantly faster in the straights, for example, see this Top Gear video (towards the end). No matter what kind of transmission M3 has, it still has way less hp and 150lb-ft less troque : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__ghLE7QtnA

If you look at 1/4 mile times and trap speeds, you'll see that C63 is as fast as E63, E55 and BMW M5. We're not going to start saying that M3 w/ DCT is as fast as M5, are we now?

Benz does not upshift for you in manual mode. However it is more of an auto/tiptronic car than an smg. The difference in transmissions is not whether the car shifts for you in manual, the difference is whether compromises are made in auto or manual mode compared to their pure counterparts. In other words, the F1, cambiocorsa and SMG transmissions are more akin to manuals and perform much better in manual mode than auto mode. The tiptronics and MB transmissions are more like autos than manuals and perform much better in the sport auto mode than manual mode.

i have a E46m3.. its a great car.. but IMO its not a beast in straight acceleration for its power. the Carrera S with 10 hp more just smokes the M3 in any way. i have the m3 and had the CS.

well i really dont think the new M3 is a beast in straight .
street races depends to much of the driver.

let me drive the C.
