I have a 2006 BMW Z4M Coupe, it has 34k miles, Imola Red exterior/Imola Red Interior. I love the car, its quick and handles well. BUT I ran into something today at local dealership that got my eye, and I test drove it and was blown away by how much faster/louder/more fun it was to drive. A 2006 black on black Chevy C6 vette, B&B exhaust, K&N cold air, 6spd, navi, fully loaded. Now that car is about $35,000. I am in a dilema as to if I should trade my M for this vette.
GRANTED I know this is the BMW forum, but please try and be as unbiased as possible. I would like the pros and cons and what you would do.
Thanks

My 2 cents is that they are two different worlds. M will be fun to drive and handle well (higher cost of upkeep maybe), Vette will make lots of noise and leave black marks but wont be as agile.
I'd stick with the M, unless you said Z06...

Perhaps neither car is where this will lead you . The Corvette may have opened up the idea for a change yet the doubts about the Chevy pose the question of your thread title .
So here's my advice -- Find the car which thrills you as much as the Vette did in that moment yet also offers the peace of mind which came with the M .

Great advice, but what has 400+ horse power, is reliable, and is under $40,000???

Ok well lets say I do go for the 05/30,000 mile vette. What kind of problems would I be looking at as far as whats most likely to break? What am I looking at price wise for a set of those monster tires?
Find me an 07 M5 for $40k, and I will buy it and give you a $1000 finders fee.
Every day that you keep your current car gives you savings towards a higher price target . A Vette costing less than 40K is not immune to repairs and my opinion with car buying is to get the right car right out of the gate . Then you can deal with modifications with time.
If impulsive enthusiasm leads to a here and now type of purchase keep in mind that the Vette does not come with a guarantee that its novelty won't erode .
Asking me what I would get won't give you your answer. It will give you my answer which points more towards what NOT to get at this time.
If you buy the Vette despite the doubts expressed in the posts then you have might have sank more money into delaying finding the right one .
What would I do? I would do what I did - buy the M Coupe. But I'm older, wiser, with more refined tastes (no offense). We bought our cars for different reasons.
What should you do? Probably go with the Corvette. You're young, you'll probably change the Corvette for something else in next to no time, nothing you get is going to hold your interest for very long at this point. This is the time for that, when your sole considerations are what's fastest or looks hottest, rather than what will hold a baby seat, get good mileage, or help haul clients. Eventually you'll settle down, get something practical, and you'll have memories of some great cars and some dogs from when you were younger.
