hmm....I do like his design
I like the X6 ,the new Z4 and I was really looking forward to see the Concept CS in a few years at a dealership...
I hope they won`t drop the CS and come out with some flashy "green" cars instead

I am so happy to have read this! I will admit to being in love with some of the current cars, but like most enthusiasts it took some time to warm up to them. I've always wondered how a person could take a car that is better than it's predecessor in every respect and still manage to suck the soul out of it. I feel as if the designs were some selfish personal extensions of his "creativity" and not a thoughtful evolution of what has been, with little regard for what is easily the most enthusiastic group of owners on this planet. This post makes me feel like I am allowed to have my enthusiasm back!

nothing will change with Bangle leaving BMW.
According to the BMW Press Club Germany, Adrian van Hooydonk will continue the design strategies of bangle and was involved to a great part in the recent designs of BMW cars.
He and his team designed cars like the new 7 series, the 6 series, the new Z4 and the upcoming PAS vehicle.
So he is simply continuing what he and Bangle had started..

Give the man credit. He was original. I will be the first to admit, I said "WTF??!!!!" when I saw the E65 7series for the first time. However, we have to remember that Bangle was highly influential in the design of the E38, E39 and E46 cars previously. When the E38 7Series came out, Bangle was quoted as saying (I'm paraphrasing here) "Our owners are, for the most part, conservative and so we are going with an evolutionary change from the previous generation 7 series." Obviously, that philosophy went right out the window with the next generation, but you have to ask yourself why that was?
If you look at the front end of the E32 7, E34 5, E36 3, E38 7, E39 5 and E46, you will note that the headlight cluster design with the side corner markers is iconic and has been aped by everyone from Audi to Chevrolet (in the dark, sometimes I think that a BMW is behind me and then I realize its a F*&^*$G Cop in a Chevy Impala). I guess, Bangle had to come up with something new so that the "new" BMWs wouldn't look like everyone else's cars. So he came up with the eyebrow turn signals and the "Bangle" but rear decklid. Lo and behold, the look that everyone hated seems to be turning up again on everything from the new Mercedes C Class (eyebrow turn signals) to the Mercedes S Class/Toyota Camry/Honda Accord (the "Bangle Butt"). The man has been hugely influential and has left his mark. If he never works in the auto industry again, I won't be sad. But as was said before, the damage is done.
I, for one, have become accustomed to the new designs. I will never buy a E65 7 series but then, I'm only 36 and have no need for one. I find the new 7 series (don't know the designation yet) a little boring to tell you the truth. I much prefer the look of the current MB S Class or the Audi A8. However, I am finally starting to find the look of the E39 5 Series dated and I hope to get an E60 M5 when the lease on my E46 M3 is up.
Cheers.

I agree with Dr Chuck-
I believe he was revolutionary and over time, the collector cars will be ones like the 5 series with the mascara headlights and flame treatments. His cars looked like art to me which is what other greats like Harley Earl and Bugatti created before him. van Hooydonk will be more conservative and bring the radical lines back into mainstream but it took Bangle to differentiate the BMW's and I believe he should be also greatly credited with the increase in sales they have enjoyed. Other car companies copy his designs- he didn't seem to copy anyones. He's brilliant and proof of that is the on-running 'love it, hate it' aspect of his designs- they evoke an emotional response which, for those that love them, breeds a particular loyalty that money cannot buy. It was his time to leave but I hope GM or some other auto company in desperate need of taste gives him a large budget and a free range to design his auto art.

I'm sure you all agree BMW is high end car. Problem with the pre-Bangle stuff is they were too plain. Put an E46 M3 next to a Porsche and it looked really plain. The Bangle cars have more style...more befitting cars that cost a premium.
I do like the older stuff. I've liked every Bimmer since the 70's.
The new stuff is a lot more stylish though.
Lot's of people agree. The designs have sold well and been copied by other automakers.
I think Bangle did well and should land elsewhere...like GM. They need restyling.

I fully agree with drchcuck72.
That really makes sense and just spitting hate on Bangle for being revolutionary and a bit over the edge with some of his designs is not the way to go...
The thing I like a lot about the bangled models is that they show much more emotion in their appearance.
Much more agressive and provocative(sports cars) and a lot more dominant and impressive(7 series). than some of the previous models
