$40,000 for a Hyundai??? that is a little extreme for a HyunDai. Do you get 2 of them for the price of 1?? How is there service departments? How do they hold up down the line? Are they safe or are they made from Tin Cans?
What makes the Hyundai Genesis a better choice then a 2008 BMW 5-series (which is around the same price)?

whats your thoughts of the new Nissan Maxima? i kind of like the looks. you still see old as maximas driving around with over 125k miles on them. are they reliable? safe? worth it?

thanks

Subaru Forester or Legacy? They both fit your requirements of safe (5 Star rtgs) and 4WD. Subaru's sales are UP while every other manufacturer is down for a reason......

Also what about the Toyota Highlander and/or Hybrid? A loaded model has all the features and amenities that a Lexus would, plus you know the quality is top notch, and also meets your requirements, including mpg.

They're awful in every category still. It's easy to put numbers on paper (acceleration, torque, skid pad), but it's a lot harder to build a good car - Hyundai still has not done it. They're asking too much for that car. The name and what was of the company will never be removed from the scarred minds of consumers. I do give them credit for offering more then any U.S automaker for the price though. The cars are pretty powerful, smooth, and the interior is relatively nice although still obviously cheap.

I'd go for the BMW - hands down, even for a lower tiered model with less power over a Hyundai. Yes, name and status pay a major roll - for me at least.

I beg to differ. The Genesis is a very nice car, you just listed a lot of misinformation about the car & Hyundai in general

two-five LGT, i researched the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and it all looked good until, i saw one in person. For an SUV, that thing is TINY. Will keep it in mind and on the list. Thanks for the reccomendation.

I went to 2 dealerships yesterday just to get a look at 2 cars (well 3 if you count the one my gf wants):::: Here are my reviews, all done without a test drive.

::2009 HYUNDAI GENESIS 4.6:: Fully Loaded $41,250 with mpg 17/25
First Glance - reminds me of a not so sporty Camry.
Exterior---
I walked around the lot for about 5 minutes and saw no one that worked there (weird). I decided to do a vehicle walk-a-round myself. Found a Hyundai Genesis SEDAN (didn't know they had a coupe but, i'll get back to that). I knocked on all the panels and doors just to see if it had that tin can feeling, haha. The body actually seemed like a real car. I was impressed that it actually had projector headlights. I would like to see the front grill calm down just a little bit but, aside from that it looked pretty decent.
Interior--
Highly impressed with the leather seats! Very, very soft leather. Roomy both in the front and rear seats. I actually fit in the back seats (i'm 6'6" 230). The only thing that I do not understand is why there is no tilt on the front passenger seat? As a passenger I would want to be comfortable and relax since I'm not driving. Since, there was no one at the dealership i coudln't turn the damn thing on so, i had to go off of what i saw in the OFF position. I wasn't too impressed with the dash at all. Could of used more wood grain. The center of the dash (where the screen and climate ctrls are) bulges out and reminds me of 2007 Honda CRV. After examining the car for a good 15 minutes and still no help from anyone at the dealership (actually saw 2 people but, i wasted enough of my time there) I decided to leave. I hope there service on the cars isn't as bad as there salesman issue. I really wanted to hear this 17 speaker audio system they have in it. Too bad! 4, 7, 11 or 17 speakers, it all sounds the same to my mother.
Exterior - 7
Interior - 6 (would of been a 3 if the seats weren't so soft and comfortable)

::2009 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV:: Fully Loaded $38,450 with mpg 19/26 premium fuel
First Glance - GT-R
Exterior-
They were closing but, one salesman decided to stay and show myself and gf the 2 cars we were looking at. So far, it blows Hyundais service out of the water.
The front end from a head on view looks like a GT-R (very sexy). Car has great lines to it and flows all together. 5 Star crash test rating. The panoramic roof looks great and goes well on the car if in the right color. Very sleek and sporty look to the Maxima. The HID Xenon headlights give the car a great look. I would not change a thing on the apperance of the car.
INTERIOR--
Great looking interior, reminds me of the new interior for the Cadillac CTS. Seats are comfortable but, not like the Hyundai. I would be willing to sacrifice the soft seats of the Hyundai for a more updated and better looking interior set up that the Maxima has. It has about the same amount of wood trim but, the dash isn't so bulky. Sound system sounds great and the screen is very legible. I would rather have the controls within better reach or something along the lines of the BMW iDrive. It just seems out of reach especially if your moving along in traffic. Maybe I just got used to my BMW. The rear seats were a little tighter for me and the panoramic moonroof killed the headroom for me (i call ShotGun).
Exterior - 9
Interior - 7.5 (controls location was a factor)

How is it that a HYUNDAI costs $40,000???? That is a waste of money right there IMO. The Maxima looks like it would cost more and I think it should hold it's value better then the Genesis.

Also, why would they name it Genesis when they have a 2 dr named Genesis?? You don't see a 7 series coupe of a S550 coupe. They even doubled the price between the 2 HAHA.

I will save my money and my mothers dignity by not purchasing a 2009 Hyundai Genesis 4 dr. Those things will probably selling for around $20k after a year and 12k miles.

xsbc63x, what did and didn't you like about all those?

I like the look of the STS but Uncle on the cheap plastic center dash. I had a 97 STS and I loved that thing, i think the center dash in my old one is better then what it has now. Step it up Cadillac!!! They change the interior of the CTS and modernize it so, why didn't they follow it up with the STS??

certain thnigs about each
bmw - didnt have a/c seats, higher cost of maintenance, reliability not as good
ls430 - only rwd, i live in wi and would like the awd
06gs 300 awd - low power(250hp) otherwise my 2nd choice
a6 - again reliability and cost of maintenance no a/c seats
sts - this one wasn't bad either, just not into the styling as much as the m35x

again i am very picky and these are my opinions what i like, the m35x has everything i like, and i hear lots of good things about them.

dave

yea i was talking about buying used, and reliability in general. if you got a warranty you don't need to worry much about reliability, becides the hassle of going to the dealer.

as far as i know there pretty decent as far as reliability i know the newer sts 08 and newer have the direct injection v6 which has great power and fuel economy, along with a 100k warranty. and with the caddy you still can get the push button start ac/heat seats navi etc.

and as far as maintenance its just a gm, so i wouldnt worry about it at all

Bighans, nice review! I saw some Genesis coupes that were modded and they actually looked nice! Throw some volks on them, little drop, etc...

But really though, I'd probably just get a used 2007 RS4 for that 40K that the Hyundai or Nissan would cost.
