i would say E46 M3...just because it's more fun to drive and faster on the track.

But that's just because I like driving corners. Not just flooring to the ground on highway.
Some people like high HP cars and be the king on straight line. Others like a balance of the car and be the king at track.

It just depends on what you are looking for.

to hold 400hp of modded 335i, you need suspension, brakes, and other stuff, not just $700 ecu upgrade.

M3 is perfect from stock and it looks so GOOOOOD.

given the 2 cars he asked about as a DD. forget everything else about modding the cars. previously I had a heavily modded B5 S4 that beat the crap out of most e46 M3's. when it came time to get the next ride, i went with the 335. as a daily driver, its so sweet. fast enough and powerful enough for any "spirited" drive in a daily commute. I looked at the e46's and passed. simply because as a daily driver the newer 335 offered more. this was at the time when you could still find new e46 just before the 335 came out. i waited and couldnt be happier.

Yea its not an ///M. the suspension is not as stiff out of the box, it wont rev as high, it doesnt have LSD ( which so sucks by the way ). but I have Idrive, integration for my ipod, comfort access, its new with a full warranty and service, and if you do choose to start modding, its so easy with the 335.

the next car i go for will either be p-car, or depending if they really drop a TT in the next gen M3, well then ill have to think about it.

For this same reason, I would choose the 335, if I were to ever buy a BMW.

Just my awful opinion.
Of course they won't. If you ask any TT owners if they want to trade their cars for a GT3, they probably would say no and the same goes for GT3 owners. I would say 99% of all GT3 owners wouldn't trade theirs for a TT either. Those Porsche guys had a reason why they bought their cars. However if you ask the guys that don't have Porsche for their opinions, it is an automatic no brainer. For example if you ask the BMW crowd, 9 out of 10 guys will want to upgrade to a GT3 after their M.

In fact, I met 3 guys in the last 2 years that wanted to sell their TT for a GT3/RS and that's not my opinion..........it's theirs....

Why not drive both and decide yourself?

E46 M3= Great Drivers car
E92 335= Smooth Touring car that's easy to drive, but awfully boring!

I agree with ///M Kevin, you just don't get that same ///M feel. Plus there are some really good deals to be had on the E46 M3 right now, they are so cheap!!

To the OP- Don't expect to get an unbiased opinion here. People always prefer what they have!

Good luck!!!

They are getting very cheap and this economy is making it a lot easier for people to get behind the wheel of one. If I want more hp for the E46M, I'll just call up HPF.

Having own one and driven another many times, I would probably choose an e46 m3 ONLY if I didnt have to drive it daily. Although it is slower, it still has plenty of power, is a blast to wind through the gears, and handles very well. The 335 is also a great car, but it is not as sporty. What makes the 335 a good daily driver is what makes it a bad weekend-only car. It is more comofortable and refined rather than raw and sporty.

IMHO, get an E46 M3. If you really are looking cheap hp/tq through a turbo set up, then why go with BMW in the first place? There are many dependable, cheaper, and more reliable to tune cars out there-EVO VIII,IX, and Supra.

I drove a 335I and while it does feel more torque, it doesn't feel as connected to the road, less "spirited" imho.

I love my slightly modded E46 M, and doubt I would ever trade for 335I, though I did consider it in the middle.

Anyway, my E46M is for sale if you are interested.

e46 m3 without a doubt. The 335 is really boring to drive. m3 will always be better then the regular 3 series counterpart.

I dont care how many mods you have on a 335i or how fast you make it. Its still just a 3. It does not have the soul, design, feel of the ///m engineered car.

Not saying 335i is a bad car. I just would stick with the m3 either e46 or e92 if you want the new design.

When it comes to look, E46 M is ftw. Not sure on measurements or dimensions, but the E46 seems so much more wider, agressive. It probably is because of the massive fender flares.
