If you had to choose between both and not as a DD which would it be.

E46 M3. You won't get the same M feeling driving in a 335.

My friend and I got to drive an E46 M3 SMG and it was very nice. Very responsive and quick too.

Are you KIDDING?

STOCK 335 walks on the M3 - and has better gas mileage. It also has more features (iDrive, HD Radio, Bluetooth, etc etc) and more affordable tuning options... $700 will put you at 380+hp... $700 on an M3 will get you an air intake.

I have a 400+HP 335, wouldn't trade it for anything... especially not a heavy, 333HP E46 M3 that is probably entering the dreaded "out of warranty" stage.

Trust me on this - I have been working on BMW's (and driving nothing but!) for 6 years now.
I've driven both, I've tuned both.

If you're talking about adding hp to the 335, we all know what it's capable of producing but it'll never have the feel of an M car. Sure if you're into numbers and hp, then that might be the right way but some of us can do the same thing to a Civic. However we choose not to because it still doesn't give us the road feel of a BMW.

BTW....From the last time I checked, the 335 is heavier than an E46M.

My point is that not everything is about hp. Most porsche owners will take a GT3 over a TT due to fact that it's a driver's car despite having less hp and torque than the TT.

I've got an e92 335i, I prefer that over the e46 M3. it's everywhere yes, but in the Silicon Valley so is the E46 M3.

Thumbs up

The 335i is like a girl you cuddle, and play with. You have to lure her to do what you want, but when you do, it's the best fun you can have on 4 wheels. She doesn't have LSD, and comes with RFT, but that's okay you love her all the same.

The E46 M3 is like a solider. It willingly goes into hells fire and pulls you out with bravery and honor. You tell it to "take that corner hot", and it follows your orders to the tee. It's planted, and firm, ready to do what you order it to do at a twist of the wheel.

Yeah I know. just like the new e92 m3's too. I'm just saying. depending on what the OP wants out of the DD and if they will mod it in the future they might prefer one over the other.

I guarantee you that 90% of the TT guys wouldn't trade their cars for a GT3, ever. I sure as hell wouldn't. But then again, most TT guys are into numbers and HP(lots and lots of it). For a few dollars in mods they'll beat the GT3, day in and day out.

For this same reason, I would choose the 335, if I were to ever buy a BMW.

Just my awful opinion.

why do people come up with this topic over and over again?
It`s always the same and it`s disturbing

M3 owners will always say that the M3>335i which may not be wrong

335i owners will always say that the 335i rips off the M3
but mostly because of the fact that they have a heavily modded 335i is nowhere near a stock 335i

which one would(did) I prefer?
the 335i,because I like the Turbo engines with torque available anywhere and the high HP outputs.
So it`s just a matter of what you like...high revving rpm craving M engines with less torque in the lower rpms or the TT power superiority
