If you are buying both new, get the V. If you don't mind buying used, get the M5. In my biased opinion, the M5 is one of the best used car values today (wish it wasn't). Only other high-revving V10 is the Gallardo motor. You already have big displacement muscle... Drive them both - one will definitely speak to you more than the other.

Hey man I do not want to say much more on this topic. DONE.Just one thing, the caddy with headers, tune and pulley ran a 121.x trap well on motor I ran a 123.x trap. I thought the geriatric motors caddy was supposed to kill me?
Enough! Enjoy your caddy before it becomes a "rattle trap" in 2 years.
I like to buy cars that are built to last years (> 10 yrs) like BMW and Porsche.

My 1995 Ford F250 has 116k hard-worked miles and has only needed the typical oil changes as far as maintenance goes. No rattles. Believe it or not, this is a very typical experience.
My 2005 CTT ($100k) has had a laundry list of TSB issues repaired due to poor design. My tailgate still doesn't seem to want to stay all the way up even though they've replaced the shocks twice. My power steering pump stopped working. An exhaust bracket fractured and led to my exhaust hanging almost to the ground. 4 of the 8 spark plug holders (name?) were cracked and had to be replaced. Most of the interior switches and buttons have been replaced b/c the paint was peeling off of them. There are more but you get the idea. I still love the car despite the issues but it isn't because it is more reliable than any American vehicle I (or my family) has ever owned.

M5 /thread
For reference my friend who is a Pro race car driver has an M5 he thought he was over it. He was absolutley sure that he would trade in the M5 for a CTS-V we drove the M5 to the caddy dealer ready to do the deed. And by the time he was done with the test drive his excitement about the CTS-V went through the floor. He was so uninmpressed that he just left immediately and very disappointed.
His comment afterward was "Theres no way that thing did 7:59 on the ring in stock form"
I personally knew it would never happend I just acted surprised the M5 is the superior car no matter if the CTS-V is supposedly faster in straight lines.

The CTS-V is a value-packed car; easy to get power from a supercharger too. I'm not sure about the size but technically it is a smaller class than the 5-series.
As for German quality... my old '89 300E shut off completely in the fast lane. And I was going 70 mph.

most bmw fanboys claim that the M cars are a bargain for their performance, saying,. 'this M car is XXX dollars less than car A'. Thats for the most part true. its the same arguement they use now that the panamera turbo has set a new bar for sedans. hell, insideline says that even the panamera 4s beats the m5 in every performance figure(and it does, no suprises there) except for straight line speed (which the panamera turbo does with ease)
however, gm finally made a car that beats bmw at its own game and does it handily, and for about 2/3s of the price.
now i personally would never buy a gm especially now that ***-bama has pretty much bailed them out and now they are pretty much govt owned, but give credit where credit is due.

The CTS-V is in the exact same size category as the M5...for the price of an M3.

The C6 Corvette is a performance bargain with a motorsport heritage every bit as rich at the ///M works in Germany.
The ///M line are good performance cars (I won't say sports cars) but they are not a bargain by any stretch of the word.
