NEW DD - M5 or CTS-V
NEW DD - M5 or CTS-V
Looking to get a new daily driver. I am trying to decide between the new 556HP supercharged Cadillac CTS-V and the 500HP V10 BMW M5. I have not driven either car yet. A friend has the M5 and I will have a chance in the near future to test drive it. I also know where there is a CTS-V for sale that I should be able to test drive.
At this point I would say it is down to these two cars. Let me know your thoughts or comparisons.

What's your commute like?
Can't comment on the Caddy, but I had an M5 and it was a great car in almost every respect but the fuel consumption. Absolutely horrendous. Under NO circumstances should most/if not all SUV's get better gas mileage than a 4 door sedan
Not saying a DD should have the fuel economy of a Civic or Prius, but average 10mpg is irritating to say the least.

While I am a big fan of BMW, I am more a fan of a fun well sorted car (of any kind). For the money the Cadillac is pretty awesome, but the M5 is well, an M5. I guess the price disparity hasnt escaped you, but since you seem to like big HP and want 4 doors, why not an AMG Merc? A guy in my neighborhood has a CTS-V and aside from the questionable tint job, its a really nice car. The seats alone are worth the price of admission.

Friends with more of a lead foot got as bad as 8-9 (and this was NOT on track). Expect 10-12 on average.MPG was not a big concern for me either. At least not monetarily. But when you're looking for a gas station at least twice a week, it's downright annoying.

Any reason for the complete lack of respect?

No worries. IMHO - The Z is a great car.
I know some Porsche guys who would not be caught dead in my Z. They are entitled to their opinions as well.
I have driven Porsches, BMW's, Merc's and many other foreign cars. The only foreign car I have only owned previously is a Honda.
We are all young and poor at some point. I am open minded about all cars. That is why I am looking at the BMW and the caddy.
Eric,
I had Kevin from Imola Motorsport's M5 for a couple of weeks. That car is awesome (And will eventually replace my M3 DD). I can arrange for a test drive of that one if you want. Let me know. I'm sure the caddy is cool, but the M5 is fantastic IMO.

I just sat in a regular CTV and i must say the interior took a few steps towards the better, but still overall and not because i have one but i'd pick the M5, even if it's a tick or two slower than the CTS-V
Luis - That would be great. Thanks
I highly recommend you test drive one to test out the SMG tranny before even beating your brains out a second longer. You may love it....I surely didn't.
Having said that, I love the looks of it and the combined power/luxury.
I'd look at a 550 with sport pkg.
i just got rid of my m5, an 08, just didnt do it for me
great car and all, and a bargain now for what you get
the gas mileage does stink, the motor is wonderful if u change the exhaust
drive them both
there have been reviews and comparisons on m5board.com
most people like the m5 and dont see the caddy as refined, eps if u r looking at used m5 prices now
good luck
