Is this a scam?
Bought a car today after 120+ miles test drive (not from the person from NY). Picking it up tomorrow.
It's a fully loaded '08 M3 with 3k miles on the clock, and 1200 miles service done. Car is practically brand new. Previous owner was a 50 something guy that bought it as a toy, had to sell it due to financial situation.
Re: OP it was almost certainly a scam. He wanted me to put the money in escrow (through e-bay) before shipping the vehicle. Yeah, right. Send me some spoofed link and I'll wire you the money, lol

Congratulations on your new car! I don't mean to defend the seller of the car you questioned, but, would you really expect a seller to ship a car with no payment? I have been in that position twice as a seller. Once I accepted a 10% deposit to hold the car, not ship it. The second time, I was paid in full a month before the buyer picked it up. I still had the title, all the money, the car, and the buyer had not even seen it. Enjoy your car, sounds like a great one!
Anyways if you're interested let me know.

I'm getting used to it. Feels very heavy compared to my modded CS, but overall M3 is a nice car.
To answer your question, no I couldn't blame him to ask for payment before shipping the car but the price seemed just too good to be true. It was fully loaded E92 with DCT, White/Fox Red. Really nice car. He'd get $50k without even trying, possibly $55k-$56k, so $40k was just too fishy.
In any case too late for me know, but if anyone's interested to check it out PM me and I'll forward his info.
BTW, didn't I see you on the Planet Porsche with a CS too, and recently with a GT3? Please apologize If I confuse you with someone else.
Sounds very fishy, did he give you a phone number to call? There has to be some kind of catch when you take the car over for "Test Driving", check the legality of driving a car for 5 days during the inspection period. It might lock you into buying the car, where he then in turn charges you a crazy price and you're obligated to buy it. Ok read the rest of the posts and you decided against it, good luck with the new car, congrats.
