Service Engine Light on, 04 M3???

2004 M3 service engine light came on. Oil change not due until 2600 miles it says. Not sure why? This car has been taken care maintenance wise! Only 33K miles on it. Anyone know why???

I could probably help you out if you gave a bit more info.

- Is the engine making any sort of strange noise? Maybe a "marbles in a can" sound?

- How is the car performing? Is it still responsive at all RPM levels?

It's hard to diagnose from your post. It could be your VANOS (let's hope not) or it could be just a loose wire.

I just bought the car about a month ago from a trustful friend and I know he took very good care of it. The car has no wierd enigne sound at all. It runs strong like new. No issues at all. It is close to gettiing a oil change but still says it has over 2,000 miles left until it needs it.

Did he complete Inspection I and other recommended services? You may want to go pull the code for free at one of the autoparts stores.

I hope you are able to resolve the issue!

+1 to pulling the codes

You could have a faulty coil, or even a failed sparkplug. It sucks that M3Forum is down right now, as it is loaded with information that could help you. There's some videos on youtube showing you how you can check if your coils are faulty on the S54 engine. Search "e46 failed coil check" or something on youtube. I'd help, but youtube is blocked at my work.
