i'd wait till the F10 M5 is out. then the E60's will be pretty much rock bottom... unless everybody hates the new model.

I was wondering if you purchase a vehicle that is out of warranty, could you take it to a dealer to get an extended warranty back on the vehicle? Or would it have to be a 3rd party warranty?

3rd party or i'm sure the finance guys at BMW would sell you the warranty.

I'm also in the same boat but with an 07-08 M6. Definitely get it CPO'd if possible, otherwise make sure to get a aftermarket warranty from a trusted company. Even with a warranty most companies will not cover the clutch/flywheel which is a ~5k job, so do as much research as you can!

Choice

Very good choice the smg pump should be checked also, the economy is not great only 290km to a tank max, other than that great buy enjoy it

many alternative companies offer them a little lower than that depending on what you want out of the warranty. do some research on used car warranty and you'll find some info. A guy I know just go one for his Z4M for $1800 - 3 yrs or 30k.

and +1 on the SMG pump... very $$$$ fix

i drive an '06 M5 with 55K miles - no warranty...driven hard all the time...good for the last 30K miles without issues except new set of tires...find a good german car repair shop - stay away from the dealer...in Houston you should go to SC car repairs at 59 & Chimney Rock.

I had a 6 speed 2007 m5 that I sold with 60k miles on it. No problems at all. If you are not sold on the smg might give you more piece of mind if there is no warranty on the car
