E60 M5 2006: any issues with this car ?

I am considering buying a white M5, SMG

Car has 8000 miles and is like new and with a great price

I will use it as daily driver

Any things I should be scared of with such car and or year ?

I know it's very thirsty, but any other issues besides fuel consumption ?

Are there any tricky repairs or mantainance issues ?

6speed is a great online info source, but not for BMW's. Go to M5Board.

Biggest issue: SMG pump. If it fails, you're stranded and will cost you $$$$$ to replace. Probably occurs less frequently in reality than as it appeared on that forum (sampling error), but still something to look out for.
Other minor niggles, but ^^ is the big one.

just make sure you get a warranty. we picked up our m5 a few months back and are really enjoying it...well besides the gas mileage. its not the cost of the gas, its that my girlfriend always rides it til its on E...so by the time i get to drive. i have to fill it up (annoying )

other then that, im very happy with it. on a car with that many electronics...warranty is a must

Dont let the GF drive it and you wont have that issue. Or tell her if she leaves it on empty, you are going to buy her a geo metro to drive.

Hahahaha

The only major $$ thing to watch out for would be the SMG pump. I would def say get a warranty though.

Many of the '06 windshields cracked easily and have been replaced. If it has HUD, make sure they replaced with a HUD specific windshield.

you should definitely not get this car if youre not going to have a full warranty on it. that basically goes for all German cars but an M5 is a big mistake in my opinion without warranty.

id say that general consensus is the SMG and the clutch that gives the most problems. after that theres a common issue with the alternator and battery that sets off a variety of false check control messages including engine malfunction, reduced power, auto-hold, traction, and the overall electronics. its relatively rare but it has occurred to many and it requires a new alternator and/or battery which was malfunctioning and cutting power to all the various features
