BMW E92 M3 Project Half Breed - HRE, Bilstein, Active Autowerke, Recaro & more.......

One of our best clients called me up one day and said he was interested in building a car he could have fun on the track with and drive it on the street. He previously had an E90 M3 and wanted to get back into another one but wanted something more sports car like. So we started looking for a M3 E92 Coupe. We ended finding a super clean white coupe with a carbon roof with just the basics in it. It was the perfect starting platform.

Upgrades include:
  • Dinan intake
  • Active Autowerke lightweight crankshaft pulley
  • Active Autowerke software
  • GMP customized exhaust
  • Bilstein PSS10 coil-over suspension
  • HRE Wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires for the street
  • Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires on the stock wheels for the track
  • Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber front spoiler (covered in matte-clear vinyl)
  • Vorsteiner Carbon Fiber rear diffuser (covered in matte-clear vinyl)
  • Autopower Industries Roll Bar (powdercoated white to match)
  • Recaro Sportster CS seats on GMP custom brackets to allow electric adjustment
  • Hardwired V1 Radar Detector
  • Carbon Fiber look roundels front and rear
  • Carbon Fiber steering wheel insert
  • Matte-clear vinyl cover on OE carbon roof
  • Matte-clear coat paint on carbon kidney grille trim

Factory Exhaust out

New Exhaust Powder Coated and Custom made Cat Delete Pipes

Little bit of trimming for the rear diffuser.

The system came off his old E90 M3 so the X Pipe was a little short.

Stainless Tig welding done in house.

To be continued tomorrow

Seat Install, Recaro Sportster CS mounted to the factory BMW powered Sliders with custom 993 Porsche power seat switches, and correct resistors so that there are no air bag lights on the dash at all and all airbags will deploy as they were meant to in case of an accident except the ones in the factory seats of course.

Assembling the brackets to adapt the power BMW seat frame to the Recaro seat designed to be manually adjusted

Test fitting one switch option we had (which we ended up replacing with a better switch)

Creating the mounting holes for the seat switches

Test fitting the switch (which was ultimately changed to a different design) before painting

We ordered replacement wiring harnesses from BMW rather than cutting up the harnesses in the M3 seats

Due to space constraints the wiring is all soldered to the switches

Working on the motor wiring

Testing functionality with a jump box

The wiring that was soldered to the switch is insulated with a liquid electrical insulation coating

Because we used OE replacement harnesses for the under-seat wiring the OE car-side harness is retained for a nice clean look.
