M5 in the snow?
M5 in the snow?
Hey guys, one of nicest cars I've churned through in the last couple years was an e39 M5. Now, one of my pushers has called me to offer an '03 with about 5k miles!! It only makes sense to me if I trade my beloved RSX type S and drive the M as my only winter car.
Has anyone put snows on one and driven it in the winter?
Many thanks.

just read a post by bmwracer over at lambopower.com about driving his M5 in the snow, he said it was the worst car he has ever driven in the snow without snow tires, so they would definatly be a must.
amusing that he had to floor it up a hill with the speedo hitting 260kmh yet he wasnt doing over 60.

Any heavy car sux in the snow w/o snow tires.
I drove mine in winter. Get a set of performance snows and you'll do great. Remember to turn off DSC when you need to get up a hill in snow or icy conditions, unlike the guy in the previous post.

My dad had an '00, he was driving to work on the day of the first snow, he said Jeremy, I was seriously doing 5 miles per hour (on I-94) with both hands gripping the steering wheel, and I honsetly thought I was going to die.
He got downtown, pulled one of his delivery trucks out of the garage, pulled in the M5, got a ride to O'hare and rented a Pathfinder for 6 months.
Granted he was running the stock tires, but was so traumatized that rather than pick up a set of snows, he refused to drive the car, and we became super platinum plus blah blah enterprise customers.
With snow tires, it may not be all that bad but if you're buying it for a winter car, and minimal other purpose, get an RS6.
