M5 vs. CLS 55

opinions?? anyone driven both? does the 030 option on the cls make the car go faster or just adds different wheels and better brakes? ie. not faster???

They're pretty close. Some reviews favor the M, others the AMG. Keep in mind that the US version of the M doesn't have "real" launch control, and also remember that the CLS 55 is giving way to the CLS 63 as we speak.

All are great cars, but beware that "best in class" will juggle back and forth, so don't sweat it and buy what you like.

i def think u should go with the m5. i had a chance to drive the amg and other than it being fast was not impressed. i am not impressed with any mb for the matter. bmw's in my eye are just so much better quality, and besides its an ///m.

I drove both and ended up with the M5. I was not impressed withthe quality of the CLS 55. I do not regret my desicion as the M5 is a great car.

I would get the CLS 55 with 030 because of the insane torque
What if the 63 comes out thats good for buyer to get the 55 because they will be down MSRP and you can spend the other Mods getting a Ecu,Pulley , Set of headers and your down to 550hp , 40hp more than the CLS63

Have not driven the M5..never been a Mercedes fan but my CLS 55 is fantastic...cannot find much fault (if any) with it..

I would be very hesitant to buy an M5 as my last experience with an M3 was pretty bad..great on paper but that's about it..

If you want a sports sedan with the emphasis on sport, buy the M5...If you want more of a straight line car with smooth ride, little feedback, and sketchy handling, but the AMG

if you want to carry anything in the backseat other than a small ice cooler or maybe a winter coat, get the m5. In the cls the back of my front seat touches the rear seat. No one could ever sit back there. M5 was the route i took

The M. I haven't played with the CLS55, but I was less than impressed with the CLS500. And you might as well get the SL, as the rear seats are useless for real human beings. And the fact that I hate the styling of the CLS doesn't help.

Also, given Mercedes's recent build quality issues, get the M (although I do know of a M5 on its third transmission, but that's one in many).

Well, i think the CLS55 should be compared to the M6. My friend has a CLS 500 and i must say that the rear seats in the CLS is better compared to the 6er. There's more leg room but may not fit larger adults as roofline is low.
Go for the M5 if u want room. I had a 545 and it fits 5 adults comfortably. And with more power.
The CLS is definitely sexier, but u may want to wait for the 6.3 liter new AMG engine.

That pretty much sums it up.

My opinion is that the only things they have in common is that they are sedans with powerful engines. Everything else is different.ยด

Get both. Use the M as your DD then use the CLS as your friday/sat night car.

got a friend with an M5. Awesome car has great power. Raced it against an E55 about two days ago. Smashed the E55 pretty bad. Only problem is the whole iDrive thing is kind of a pain but my friend says once you get used to it, its quite simple.
