Certified Pre-Owned M5's???
Certified Pre-Owned M5's???
So, I'm replacing my C4S with an E60 M5, and I'm looking at one at a local dealer. We're all smiles, great car, all the options I want, so we agree a price, and start the paperwork. 20 minutes later, the guy comes back in to tell me that the car is not certified pre-owned (which he had told me it was). The car is eligible (>6 months old, > 6k miles). Then the sales manager comes in and tells me that BMW are not issuing CPO status to any 2006 M5s at all.
Is this true, or am I being told fibberoonies?
I walked away for now, but if what I'm being told is true, then it's a great deal on an M5, but if not, I don't want to not get the extra two years of warranty coverage, and I'll keep looking.

you should have 3.5 yrs of factory warranty left. can't you buy a BMW extended warranty if CPO isn't offered? BMW warranty is fishy anyways. I've heard many items are not covered and often passed on as normal wear and tear.

I highly doubt that dealer was telling the truth.
Interestingly, I looked up the CPO section of bmwusa.com, and while I found a bunch of E39 M5s, E46 M3s, E60 5-series, and all other models listed through official BMW dealers, I found not one E60 M5. I'm putting in a call to BMW today to see if I can get a definitive answer.

I spoke with the head of BMW's CPO program, who confirmed that the E60 M5 is currently not eligible for enrollment.
My concern with that car was that the dealer had attempted to enroll it in the program, and it got bounced back. If the program is available, and that car was not in it, it implied that there's a problem with it that couldn't be fixed, meaning I'd want to pass on it.
Although, between the frequent transmission failures, steering angle sensors, and red screens of death I read about on M5Board, I'm sure the BMW ownership experience will be very similar to owning my C4S (only I'll be going faster, with more complaints from the peanut gallery
)

I'll take some pics tomorrow. Any specific things anyone wants to see?
I only got the regular seats, but they seem fine, and I've sat in the swanky M-multi-function ones.
