Thumbs up Just Drove the 7 Series Hydrogen

Just drove the 7 series hydrogen car at the BMW Breast Cancer Drive. The car can switch from petrol to hydrogen with the press of a button on the steering wheel. In hydrogen mode it sounded similar to a diesel, but still very tolerable for a 7 series owner. It even has a usable trunk with the hydrogen tanks. I really do hope this goes into production.

Pretty awesome you got to drive it. It’s too bad that Hydrogen with current technology is a net energy loser, though. Takes significantly more power to make the hydrogen than the hydrogen is worth as a fuel. There are far better technologies out there in the alternative world that yield much higher net energy returns. Although it is good to see the majors spending R&D money on alternative fuel cars.

In petrol mode it was on par with a 750. In hydrogen mode somewhere between 530 and a 745. It still had plenty of power for the hefty 7.

Probably the only time I will be in a million + car!
