E36 M3

Hey,

Once the S4 is sold I was thinking of getting an E36 M3. I live in Boston so it wouldn't be used as a daily driver, more of a auto crosser/track day and general fun car. I know that most of you drive E46s and newer, but am wondering if anyone has any experience with the E36.

Thanks,

Adam

I recently sold my -97 E36 M3, great car... Had the "big" engine (3,2L) with 321hp, felt perfect for the car. Not sure which engines you US guys got?

The US engine isn't quite as nice, 240 bhp stock. Although that can be remedied through intake, exhaust, and cams. But, the European engine had individual throttle bodies (I think at least). I'd probably end up taking care of suspension and braking before doing much to the engine.

I sold my E36 M3 a couple of years ago and it was quite the car minus all the driver's aides the E46 M3's have. If you want me to view this car let me know, Will is a local TO BMW guy and I've seen a few cars he's had for sale. BTW Tunermotorsports has a E36 "Big" engine upgrade for the NA E36's.

I've got mine and I live in Boston if you want to meetup for a ride/whatever be more than happy to help you out and answer any questions. Going on 3yrs of ownership. She is the weekend warrior and occasional track car.

There's a lot of BMW involvement up here you'll fit right in.

Just sold my heavily modded (still NA) E36 M... it was a fantastic car. I'm having some sellers remorse now, should have used it as a DE car so I could actually learn how to drive. Ugh.

You know, I may have to take you up on that offer. I'm technically in Medford (Tufts U), but can easily get downtown through the subway. I've got a fairly heavy course load during the week, but am usually available during the weekends. Any help or guidance would truly be appreciated. So thanks in advance.

Hard to beat an E36 M3 for the prices they are going for these days. One hell of a bargain. I've had mine for ~7 years now, doubt i'll sell it anytime soon.

One tip, when buying used, spend a few grand more on a rigorously maintained car. It will save a lot of money/headaches in the future.

Yeah, that seems to hold true for nearly every European car. In the long run I think it'll be better to use mod money to buy a more pristine car.

I've gotta wait for my car to sell anyway, but will wait for a low mileage black coupe.

Perfect I live in Somerville about 5minutes from Tufts. The car is usually here on the weekends and will be until the end of October.

You aren't the B5 S4 lacking headlights parked on Highland Ave all the time are you?

It was my pleasure to give you a ride and proceed to put the E36 curse of love onto another enthusiast. Anytime during your buying process if you want someone to come check a car with you etc etc you have my number: I'll be happy to help.

Maybe next time we'll meet off campus since I don't think the wing gets much love from the Tufts ladies. Plus I want a ride in the S4 during an insane blizzard.
