educated suggestion is equivalent in usefulness akin to using a toothpick to dig a 20 foot trench...

My first post!

Anyhoo, I didn't read all 12 pages, but I'll be in the same boat as the TS next year when my RSX payments are up, either a used E46 M3, used 335i, or a new 135i. I'll most likely go for the 135i; can't beat the 4 year/50k free maintainence for new BMWs and the peace of mind of a brand new car

i just have to point this out. you know that even though they say free maintenance, its actually part of the price of the car, or so im told from someone who works in the car business.

haha I better damn hope so. Of course, the salesmen never knew this and makes it sound like it is the best thing on earth. "Dude, you get free oil changes for like... 50,000 miles!" "Yeah, but I am also spending $45,000 to get them...." ::silence::

suprisingly, most people dont know its built into the price of the car. anyone i know who isnt a 'car' person per se is always baffled by this.

Oh no, I definitely agree with you. I have come from 2 Jeeps and now my 350z and am used to having to pay for everything. When my salesman told me this I was actually like well, that is quite a nice change. The only downer is I am paying a solid $15,000 more for the 335 than what I paid for my 350z which equates to a whole lot of oil changes! It's like everything in life though, you get what you pay for. The Bimmer is a fantastic car and the oil changes and all that good stuff is just yet another reason to buy one.

M3 is a lot more vicersal. It may look dated but the driving experience is amazing for the $. A few tweaks and you're set with an everyday sports car that moves quick on the track.

May I ask you how much you had to pay for the new gearing? I don't mean that in an *** way by any means but out of sheer curiosity. I have absolutely no idea. And I am assuming with the new gearing it turned it into a whole new animal?

Gears are a compromise. Definitely research it more if you are considering them.
Labor is expensive. I would say expect everything to be $3-4K.

thats if you do a full diff like i have. if you do just a ring and pinion 4.10, youre only looking at about 1500-2000, which isnt bad.

the car is def a whole new animal. in gear acceleration is much better. the car stays in the powerband more and mated with all my other mods and software, the car pull HARD all the way from 3K up to 8200 rpms!

honestly wyatt, i researched A LOT about the 4.10s and i dont really see much compromise. with my 8200 rpm redline, i still hit 60 in second gear, and my gas mileage on the highway with the 4.10s is in hte 25-27 range, and city is 18-20 and i get an city/highway mix of 21-23 mpg.

this is really the way the car should have been geared from the get go.
