Custom Exhaust (987)

Hello guys, I posted a while ago a question about modifying the stock exhaust to recreate the sound of the PSE, but unfortunately got few responses and almost no interest whatsoever.

I did a quick 'paint' job to explain in more detail what I have in mind, and my question is... based on the pic provided, will it sound "similar" than the PSE, and is it in some way similar than the PSE?

I appreciate any feedback because this is really bugging me and I want to do it, but not before some opinions from my fellow boxster/cayman friends!

Hard to say what by-pass pipes will do to that particular exhaust system. Using the boxster as a gauge it will sound nice. They do exactly what your drawing in that picture and they sound great. I just can't see how that wouldn't add some volume and sound to your exhaust system. The thing is I don't think anybody has tried it yet so you're not going to get a lot of talk about it.

Car guys fall into two catagories (mostly) the guys who do what everybody else says or has done before, whats proven, whats talked about, sold, easily available etc.. Then there are the guys who lead the pack and do things first so others can see how it goes, they re-invent the old ideas into new ones for the new cars.. Basically they are the guys who pave the way for everybody else who is short on $$$'s or scared to mod their cars.

So go out and do it, take pictures and sound clip and let us all know how it goes. I just can't see how it could end up badly considering this is a pretty old mod that porsche guys have done on older cars 1000 times already...

986Jim, thanks a lot for your excellent response. I figured not many poeple on the board have done this before, but I thought some poeple will be interested, its not always nice to be the guinea pig, but I guess if the end result is good, then you'll feel good about yourself. I will go ahead and carry on with this project, just not now, by January it should be finished and I will post an article on how I did it and what were the results.

In the meantime, if anyone feels like chiming in, please go ahead.

Its fun being the Guinea pig you get to pave the way for stuff. I have done a few things like that on different cars and bikes I have owned. Everybody says "that wont work" and I make it work. Any idea how man engineers I have had tell me all this theory about how what I wanna do wont work? I love their responses after I prove them wrong.. Rock science it is...

Actually there is a thread on caymanclub.net in which they cut open the mufflers (just what I wanted over a year ago), took the secondary cats out (again, what I had thought about), and took all the baffle out (again, something I wanted to do along with the previously mentioned). Anyway, just go ahead and look for yourself, hope this helps.
