Springs vs. Coil overs

I currently have a Champion/H&R springs on my 987 and was wondering would there be any benefits if I were to upgrade to full coilovers? Will there be more of a drop or would it be the same? How about handling wise?

more adjustable for the level of drop you are looking for, ride comfort adjustment, MUCH sharper steering, none to very little bodylean, way more funnier to drive all around. I regreted not getting coils and got the H&R springs, didn't lower the car enough and the handling didn't change that much at all.

yea, the drop was barely noticeable! You still drive the 987? I thought you'll be driving the 997 turbo all the time

The 987 is currently undergoing "Winter Upgrades".....I'm pampering the 997tt, as my significant other is forcing me to sell it...

just curious....aren't the H&R springs a fraction of the cost of full coilovers anyway? to me, the price diff. alone should say you get what you pay for?

i was going to do the pss9's on the 996, but then someone had mentioned just doing H&R springs. they said it would lower it 1 to 1/2 inch? does this sound accurate? i would be doing it mostly for the lowered look. performance is great, but i don't want to sink too much into the 996 at this point when we're looking to sell it w/in a year.

thoughts?

yea, I pay $290 for the springs then $600 for install and alignment.

PSS9 for my car is $1580 shipped, you pay 5 times more for the coils. I always went with coils on my previous cars, so want to tried out the springs. have to say I ain't going with springs ever again.

PSS9 for 996 should be in the $1600-$2000 range, contact HP motorwerkz, they give me the best price so far. if you are on the market for coils for your 996.

Suspension work is a complete DYI, except the alignment part. It took me about 3hrs to remove and install my suspension to put in the H&R.

Get the coilovers - lower springs alone usually result in premature wear of factory shocks and almost never lower the car enough. I just installed the KW Var3's on my CS and swear by their product. I've had them on my S4(04), E46 M3(06), RS4(07) and CS(08). I like the stainless shock body(no rust) and the ability to adjust both jounce and rebound as well as height. Never an issue on any of the cars!! It's money well spent.

if it's just for aesthetics, why not try different springs? sounds like you could try several sets for the price of one set of coilovers.

Changing springs over and over is foolish on a street car - you'll never get it just right and the cost of labor is prohibitive.Even if you do it yourself it's not time effective. Do coilovers and you can adjust it yourself any time you want. Call Supreme Power Parts for best price on KW Var 3 (714) 632-1951.
