Porsche boxster problems

Hi,
not sure if this is the correct thread, however I have problems with my 2001 Boxster S. I struggle intermittently to put it into 2nd gear, as there is sometimes a crunch, and it pops out of 2nd. i have, at times, found it easier to go from 1st to 3rd to stop this problem, but as you can understand, this cannot continue.
Anyone else having this problem, and what can be done about it?

thanks in advance

Paully28

Angry Worn Gearbox

Worn-out transmission, 2nd gear synchros worn out, in my opinion. I had years ago passed on a 60's VW Bus for the same reasons.

I agree, sounds like a synchro problem, 2nd gear seems to be the most common to develop this problem for some reason.

Exclamation P.O.S. Transmission!!! (Weak retaining springs)

Let's get a petition going against porsche!! I have a 2000 S and I am damned with the same problem. and IT"S NOT WORN OUT!!!!! I still haven't fixed it yet, I need $$$. By the way, my car has 23,000 miles on the odometer. Tell me if thats wore out? I have heard a lot of diffrent things on diffrent forums the 911 guys have the same problem and I just don't know who to believe. Dealership charges $7,500 for a new trans $11,000 installed( they won't fix it). The only thing to do is sell but I like everything else about the car. I am at a loss. I bought my car because of the price but now I wish I never did.

It may not be the transmission itself, but could be the adjustment of the shift cables - either in the shifter (you must remove the center console to get to the cables to adjust them), or in some cases, the transmission cables slip off their guide brackets back at the transmission. This is remedied by reaching in there (beware of hot exhaust parts!) and snapping the cables back onto the guide bracket where they are supposed to be. If it is either of these issues, it is a relatively easy fix.

Good catch Boxtaboy. I've had similar symptoms and it turned out to be shift linkage, not synchro's. The previous issue wasn't on a Boxster, but the symptoms were the same. Fix was linkage adjustment.

I haven't heard about this problem in Boxsters, but I do hear it often about the 911s.
