Took my Cayman to the 1/4 Track...
The last time I checked, if you buy the car it is yours to do as you wish with. Why people put other people or cars in these neat little boxes and try to keep personal choice at a minimum is beyond me. Who cares if you mod a car or leave it stock, it is your business. Do we really have to have the Porshe police advising us on what is right and wrong? Do German engineers design cars to not move from a standing start?
BRAVO these two posts.
The funny thing is i have taken my Porsches (all 3 of them) and done JUST about EVERYTHING one can do with a car - entered shows, gumball-style runs, track events, AutoCross, Drag Strip, road trips, and ye, sat in the garage and washed them too
.....so of all people to "scold" on how to use a Porsche.....i may be the LEAST of all candidates.Appreciate the support from you all who REALLY know whats up!

This exact discussion starts anew every other week, literally, over there. Just take out Porsche and stick in Lotus, and you have almost identical posts.
Cool! Nice to see some numbers. I haven't been to the drag strip, but I have done a number of 0-60 runs with a G-meter. You're right in that wheel hop will kill your times. It's also supposed to be relatively hard on the car. Something I did was put in stiffer engine/tranny mounts. That helps with the wheel hop, but you do get some additional vibration. To offset that, shifting is very noticeably better.
Try it in a Cayenne!
Try taking a Cayenne Turbo to the drag strip! Talk about funny looks. It was the only SUV out there.
That thing had so much power and torque that I couldn't safely wring it out on the street. WOT in a twin turbo V8 is a hell of a rush. Nice thing is that it was an auto so all I had to do was hang on.
