light weight wheels

who makes good light weight track wheels for caymans and boxsters that aren't HRE expensive? SSR and kosei don't seem to have anything in the 18" range. the new OZ wheels look nice, but have enough people tested them to say they're reliable?

or...

which wheels from the 996 and 997 folks will work? did porsche make some light weight factory wheels which might fit using spacers?

thanks,
scott.

18" Hollow spokes from the 996 series will probably be your cheapest route if you are just looking for track bangers. If you are more interested in going aftermarket try the 'search' feature up top and you'll bring up too many opinions to count. Lots of useful info on the forum on this subject. Happy hunting.

yeah, i found a lot of info on wheels in general but not a lot of specifics on actual weights. when i searched the boxster/cayman forum for "light weight wheels", i received the no matches message.

but thanks for the tip on the hollow spokes. that's exactly the kind of info i was looking for. i know my way around the bimmer world pretty well, but i still have a lot to learn on the porsches.

What size is the bolt pattern for your wheels? I have some lightweight wheels at 17lbs front and 18 lbs rear form my BMW.

5x130 for porsche. the bimmers usually run 5x120. i had SSR comp-h on my m3, dropped 7 lbs per wheel from the factory soccer *****. if i can find some SSRs that'd fit the boxster, i'd love it.

I have some advan RS wheels that weigh 17.2 lbs in the front and 18.4 in the rear. They are 18" 8.5" fronts and 9.5" rears. They are not forged but they look sweet I think. Here is a picture.

Ray's Volk TE 37's are very light and not super expensive...available on tire rack. More expensive, just as light are Champion RB5 monolites (my wheels) available on line from Wheel Enhancement. Much more reasonable than HRE's

The best deal going right now is the OZ Alleggerita HLT $375 each in stock sizes 17-19 pounds. CCW (Complete Custom Wheels) is another excellent track wheel and is one of the least expensive 3 piece wheels - about $650 each. Same weight range as the OZ

the OZs are probably the way i'm going. nice looking, light and 18s available. and they're inexpensive enough that when i break one, i won't cry.
