Honestly, in this market, you shouldn't pay more than 10000 for the car IMO. One thing to be weary about with the 90's boxsters (97-99) is that the 2.5L engine has a reputation for having a porous block and is linked to multiple engine failures. This may or may not be an issue with the majority of the cars but im just relaying what i have concieved to be the general consensus on most online forums etc. I would look for a 2000+ with the 2.7L engine.

yeah, 2000-2001 "s" models going for 15k to 17k. prices are all over the board. Check out ebay completed listings(green prices=sold). you can look at the buyit now prices to get an idea of what they wanted. I would and have suggested that if you see a car you like that didn't sell, shoot them an email and tell them you are a cash buyer and ask what his best price is. Then if/when they respond, lowball them by $2k or so below.

you need to log in to view completed auctions.

here is a 2000 "s" that sold for $13,300( pretty good deal in my book)

$7k to $12k depending on condition and owner history. A pretty good value for a car that sold new for $40k+.
With 41k on the ODO, serious mfg. defects are unlikely. Major engine issues usually showed up within the first 15k miles or so. The 98 model year is less prone to IMS/RMS issues than later 986 variants. Spend $250 on a PPI for peace of mind and enjoy the car.
