New 2009 Boxster bad dealer experience

I just bought my wife a new Boxster. We made the deal and were waiting outside for the car to get gassed and detailed. While we were talking our new car went buy so fast I knew it must have hit red line. I almost canceled the deal but she wanted the car, so I had them run a report on the engine. It showed 348 range 1 ignitions at 1.7 h. The car only had 40 miles. The service manager said this would be no problem, so we took the car. Anyone think there could be future problems because of this incident? So much for following the break in period recommended by Porsche.

DJSArcade is infamous around these parts
Don't worry about it. Most of those rev limiter hits probably came from the factory during the test-track run.

She should be ok but they can give you a print out of where it's been up until this point if they didnt already. I'd have them do a print screen at the very least just so you have something to fall back on if anything does come up. I would think they'd be more than willing to do this considering the circumstances.

As said though, you'll most likely be just fine.

1.7h means the last overrev was detected 1.7h ago (engine operation time), so probably not from the speeding you have just witnessed. But 348 level1 overrevs for a brand new car with only 40 miles is definitely unusual. Sounds like some guy didn't know how to shift and drove the car around on 1st gear.

While it wouldn't ruin your engine, I would wonder what/where the car has been through. I've seen many 1 to 2 years old Carreras with less than 340 level 1 over revs.

Thanks for the info steph280. Do you know what the 348 means? How long does it take to generate the 348? I tried asking the dealer and couldn't get a straight answer. Other than this issue the car drives great and seems to be in perfect condition.
