Which would you prefer as a track car?

I am trying to decide on a car for the track. I have narrowed my list down to a choice between a 2006 track prepped Cayman S with JRZ suspension race seats and roll bar and a 2007 Exige s255 cup car. Which one would you choose?

I've driven my wife's Cayman S with stock PASM suspension on the track on a few occassions. This car performs awesome on the track. Also, I know a lot of this depends on the driver, but I was able to pass Lotus's (exige and elise's) all day with ease in the Solo and Super Solo groups while driving my wife's Cayman. I imagine a preppred Cayman S with JRZ's would do even better.

Also, take a close look at the interior's of both cars. The Exige is very narrow bodied and the driver's shoulder basically touches the passenger's shoulder when two people are in the Lotus. I also thought the interior of the Lotus looked like it was made of cheaper materials.

Either way, you can't go wrong with those two choices. Do you have any track experience yet?

When comparing both I suppose the Exige cup car is much more expensive?
I'd take the Exige in a heartbeat.

Actually I would greatly appreciate your opinion. The first mod I would consider making to the Cayman would be your Turbo setup. My only concern would be how the car reacted on boost @ turn exit. This combination is very intriguing.

If I was in your position I'd trade your 03 911. Get an 09s and get an extra set of wheels. 2 birds one stone.

I thought about trading in my Cab for a 2010 GT3. In the end I decided that I would rather keep my cab and have a less expensive track dedicated car. I want full racing seats, Roll bars and a racing harness.

I guess the answer to your question depends on your goals and your driving experience. Just open track days for kicks? Who do you plan to run with? Short tracks or super speedways? Who do you want to compete with? Regional hot shoe title? National title? Both cars are very capable in the hands of a skilled driver.

depends what kind of track you're running on... the lotus is less adept at higher speeds. i'd have to go with the Cayman as my local tracks offer a variety of speeds and the Lotus wont do so well at the fastest track in the west...

Like others have said its very driver dependent, but I have chased both around VIR's full course and the Lotus seemed to be more underpowered. After following a couple of the TPC cars I would go with a slightly used CS and set it up right!!!

Having owned a 996, 986, and driven the Cayman S, I can honestly say Lotus by a landslide all day long as a track only car.

The cayman would be a nice daily / track car, but the lotus would be much more fun on the twisty track.

With the 06 CS track prepped I'll assume you have looked into oiling. Not the every day day issue but still worth a look.
