Should I buy this High milage Boxster S?

Hey Guys,

I found a nice 2001 Boxster S. Its quite clean, and has the 18" 911 mags with nice tires. It has all the manuals, books and radio code included.

The only 3 things kinda turning me off to the whole thing are;

mileage: 92,000miles

Key remote: Doesn't work, then dealer told me its because the battery in the key is dead. Which im inclined to believe 'cause when I push any of the buttons on the key the light does not light up. However, once I change the battery will it have to be re-programed? or does the key retain its programming even if the battery dies?

Also, When I put the key in the accesory position i noticed that the oil level display in the dash indicated that the oil level was all the way to the top (past the "ideal level arrows"), so I think the oil may have been over filled.

The price is not bad, that is why I'm interested, but I dont want to be faced with 2-3k worth of repairs after.

WHat do you guys think?

If you can pick it up for about $12,000 US, then it might be a good deal.
But you can find extremely nice 2001 S with less than half the mileage for $20k or less.

Why put $2-3k into a car with that many miles when you could get the same car with less miles that needs very little work for about the same investment?

I agree with Rob.

and I doubt the battery is what is wrong with the remote. If that were the case the dealer would have replaced it. Programming is retained when the battery dies. The innards of the remote are cheapy. The inner pushbuttons come off, so the external push button does nothing.

New remotes can be had for the key.
