Does anyone know of a company that makes something like this? I know Speedster humps are close, but I would prefer to see a seamless look on the engine cover. Has anyone seen anything like this?

 

i thought about trying to fab something like that, but the functionality of the trunk and top becomes an issue. you could do it as a single piece, but you'd probably have to resort to hood pins and make the entire piece removable. on the supercool and superexpensive side, you could do a one-piece trunk/engine cover if you built a hinge mechanism at the where the trunk latch now sits.

i've played with a bunch of ideas to create that spyder/carrera gt look, but i've never found anything that would be practical, good looking and relatively inexpensive. even the speed humps have to be removed to operate the convertible top.

now, if you remove the convertible top mechanism all together to make a full-time roadster with some sort of snap-on soft top... i think that would be the first big hurdle.

 

ya interesting idea's, I would be ok with removing the top completely. I am sure for the newer cars, 05+, you might even be able to buy the spyder rear cover and make it fit. Hard to say.

 

I thought the new spyder did not have a convertible top mechanism which is why it has the cooler looking rear panel... it uses that collapsible cloth top you have to put in place manually. As stated before, with the 986 the convertible top mechanism will be the real issue.
