2005 Boxster S Extended Warranty

Hello all:

I am new to the board. I just purchased a 2005 Boxster S with 13K miles on it a few weeks ago.

I actually purchased it on e-bay and had it shipped to me from Miami. (I am in VA Beach)

The car is in excellent condition with only a few minor cosmetic things such as - sticky radio buttons and a few wear marks on the the AC Buttons. (No big deal)

I immediately had the oil changed at a local and very reputable Porsche Race company here. They said the car was extremely clean and didn't show signs of any issues.

Being new to the Porsche family and relatively not very experienced in engine repair I was inquiring if anybody could recommend a good extended warranty company?

I am not too concerned with wear/tear items, but have read many posts on the IMS issue - so an engine warranty is what I am really after.

Living in the US you may have more favourable redress with porsche in the unlikely event of IMS or RMS failures. I myself have a similar age boxster and took an extended warranty to cover the IMS primarilly , but also other costs as well. Thankfully i've not had to claim for an IMS , though have claimed for broken gear linkages, worn wheel bearing, worn inner track rod on steering, defective coolant system relief valve and rear PASM dampers. The warranty over three years i've had it has effectively paid for itself based on the running repairs needed so far. The premuim I pay over here in the Uk is about 700 Uk pounds / year.

There will be many reccommendations , the main things to look for are making sure that items such as suspension , radiators and AC condensers are covered and that the maximum claim limit for any single claim is enough to cover a new engine (about 15K USD). Some warranty companies exclude the IMS or RMS (rear main Seal) so be specific in asking if they are covered before tasking out your policy. There are often options regarding repair hourly rates , some policies won't pay the delaer rates , only those on an independent workshop. One final thing to bear in mind is that many warranty companies will require you to settle the invoice with the garage and then claim back from them for the outlay. Its worth having a good credit card limit and knowing the expected turnaround for settling invoices with your warranty company.
