it's finally here! boxster spyder
tks, it certainly is eye catching. what surprised me though is the ride. this car is quite a lot more stiffly sprung than a regular boxster S. I tried one without pasm and there is no comparison. also the the ride height is quite low and i have to navigate speed bumps very carefully- quite a change from the c63 where i can just barrel over them (and i have the performance pack).
the ride stiffness reminds me a lot of the s2000 CR although the steering feel is miles better, though not as quick. For what it's worth the go is surprisingly good (i have yet to bring it up above 5000 rpm). This is coming from someone with a c63 so i know how it feels like to have a rocket at the back.
the sports exhaust is nice but the c63 wins hands down every time. If it didn't have that i think the sound could be disappointing (but since i haven't tried the standard one...) i can't compare like for like.
I did have an issue with the lithium battery. apparently, the dealer said that it was track day only...? when i bought the car, all that was mentioned was that it doesn't function below freezing temps. there was nothing mentioned about the battery being for track use only. The dealer is investigating and will report back. Apparently the folks that buy lithium batteries are the Gt3 guys, they were surprised that it could be fitted as an option on the spyder. In any case, I am the first person in the dealership to have ordered one on the merit of it being 10kg lighter.
The positive thing is that if indeed it is for track use only, they will refund me the purchase price.

My dealer sponsored a sport drive last Thursday and they brought 2 spyders for the autocross. Absolutely a blast. The spyders were passing everything on the track. The gal from Porshe said the GT3 got passed. Of course the driver plays a big part. Overall this car was the most fun to drive of the entire stable. Here are some pics from the day. Enjoy.

good news. the dealer fitted the lithium battery and i got to bring the big and heavy conventional battery home. My, the thing weighs a ton compared to the LiOn battery. Definitely 10kg there.
She drives brilliantly. Definitely the best car I have driven.
The fact that it is also eye candy is a bonus.
