SpeedTech Exaust yay or nay
SpeedTech Exhaust yay or nay
I stumbled across http://www.speedtechexhausts.com/ today in my search for a affordable exhaust option for a 08 base Cayman. I saw there company has posted on our site before but havent found any product reviews. If anyone has had any experience with them etc or own there products let me know before I pull the trigger. If I dont hear anything then I guess I will be the test dumbie on this one lol.

I emailed them this morning asking if the 987 exhaust is in stock and would like a quote shipped etc. This is his reply-
Hi John,
Yes we do...here are the options:
1) re-use your own tips, straight pipes in place of the second cats for better flow and exhaust $1,495.00
2) Same as above w/ new polished dual tips $1,695.00
3) Secondary 200 cell cats, polished tips, muffler $1,795.00
Option: Catless "race" headers: $795.00
Add $30.00 for shipping on any system.
Best Regards,
xxxx
Im confused now because he quotes my almost twice as much as his website is advertising so I email him again.
Thank you for the quick response but on your website under the 987 exhaust section the price is $795 including 3inch tips ? Im confused I attached the link to your website below.
This is his response to my last email.
Hi John,
Sorry for the confusion, That is an older model and older price....we improved the design strength and sound attributes and now offer a revised system. It is now a much better quality product with great sound.
When we went to update the web site, the host was down and the update got forgotten. I will have to update it now...again, sorry for the confusion.
Regards,
xxxx

Blockhed, Thanks for the endorsement.
Hi John,
Again, this was simply a matter of an outdated web page for the Cayman system, nothing more, nothing less. I appologize for the confusion. The model pictured is no longer available and we have changed the design to include stronger welds, improved cats, multiple heat shields, improved sound, etc.
Also, we are a forum sponsor and have sold hundreds of exhaust systems to very satisfied 6speed members. I have been a member of this site since it opened as John D II and also as John@SpeedTech. Before that I was on Rennlist as John D II. Feel free to do a search and I think you will be hard pressed to find any negatives. In fact, you will see that we are a very reputable company that delivers a quality exhaust products at very fair prices and go the extra distance to make sure our customers are always happy...
Unfortunately, the cost of the 987 system went up with the re-design and current costs... I understand that you would want to research a large purchase like this and I think you can find comfort in the history contained within this site if you take a look around. Please let me know if I can help.
Best Regards,
John
PS - web site has been updated with current costs. Again, sorry ...

John,
I am OK with everything, so don't feel badly. It's not a big deal...a web page was outdated and has since been revised - an oversight on our part. Thanks for calling it to my attention :-)

There is a parallel brand to the Speed Tech products that is marketed under the name NHP (www.maxspeed-motorsports.com). They are virtually identical. In fact, the proprietor of Max-Speed claims to be the originator of these exhaust components. I recall reading several posts on the 986 Forum, wherein some boxster owners reported mixed results with the NHP products.
