what is complete cost of 2.5L engine replacement?

Hi,

topic was a part of spec boxster build thread, so, i want to know if one has to replace blown engine with an another used one - how much would entire ordeal cost you. Please respond if you had to go over this on your 97-99 2.5L engine car only - newer cars are not the point here, only those that can be used to build a BSR.

Cajundaddy is infamous around these parts
Just an observation... you may want to narrow the focus of your poll to get more useful responses. I know several who have replaced spec series 2.5L motors and cost runs the spectrum depending on choices made between:

A Porsche crate motor, a rebuilt motor from a respected builder, a freshened motor from same, a low mileage dismantler motor, a takeoff motor from someone installing a 3.4L, a freshened motor from a shade tree mechanic.

And installed by: Porsche dealer, respected indy shop, shade tree mechanic, self.

A takeoff motor installed yourself may only cost $2k. A Porsche crate motor installed at your local Porsche dealer may cost $20k+.
