clutch woes - your suggestions?

Took wife's '07 Cayman S (34K miles) to dealer. Car off, shifts fine. Engine on, tough to get into first, second or reverse. Intermittently clutch pedal sticks to floor. To me it sounds like Slave cylinder problem - so I note that and work campaign 802 to the service adviser.

He calls. Said Mechanic drove car and says clutch is worn. Needs clutch, flywheel, press plate and bolts $3200.

I said that does not make sense, it's not slipping at all. It's a disengagement problem. he says, the clutch is worn so much that the pressure plate has adjusted to the point disengagement is difficult.

To me that still does not explain why the clutch pedal is intermittently sticking and why the problem comes and goes? seems more like slave cylinder to me.

Please comment. Thinking of taking to another dealer or an indy shop.

BTW -What should the clutch cost?
