Boxster Wide-Track Suspension & Big Brakes Swap Help!
Working on my 99 Boxster and I would like to know any available upgrade swaps for suspensions and big brakes. Can the Cayenne brakes/ suspension parts work?
Any suggestions? Thanks

Boxster s/996 brakes are a relatively easy swap. I've seen kits for 996's to bolt up Cayenne calipers, so i couldn't see why you couldn't do it on a 986. You might have to swap the master cylinder. And sometimes you can run into compatability issues with the dme and abs when swapping calipers. So be careful when going radical. Also, adding cayenne calipers not only requires much bigger wheels, but also adds a lot of unsprung weight.

alipendier,
There are a lot of options when it comes to suspension/brakes upgrades for your 986. What are your intended uses for the car?
We have a number of different suspension options designed for everything from simple street driving, to full professional race setups.
When it comes to the brakes, we have many different option from simple brake pad upgrades, to full brakes swap, to help you get the car hauled to a stop! You should not be using any Cayenne components on your 986. These are SUV components designed only for usage on an SUV. They were not designed for a sportscar that could see extended periods of hard usage at high temps, like out on a track.
It takes a very high level of expertise to get these cars PROPERLY sorted out. At TPC Racing, we have a long history of PRO RACING, and can help you find the setup that is most appropriate for you!
Please, give us a call, or drop me an email and we'll design a package just for you!

And why would sextuple piston Brembos not be an ok idea? I agree that Cayenne suspension isnt gonna work on a Box, but whats wrong with big ole brembo brakes? I take it if he's runnin twenties that he's going more for looks than winning races and isnt worrying about unsprung weight or brake bias. The PCCB brakes are 6 pot brembos.

What are the swaps needed for a complete brakes upgrade? so far I know the:
- calipers
- rotors
- pads
- Maybe master cylinder
- and stainless steele lines
Thanks
Like stated before, I personally believe you should just get a big brake kit from Brembo. It probably will be more expensive, but big brake kits are pretty darn good.

You're gonna have to find someone that makes adapter brackets to mount the calipers. They're not gonna be a direct bolt on. I would advise upgrading the rear brakes too, otherwise you'll be doin stoppies (aka front bumper will be hitting the street and your back wheels will come off the ground). If you can't find any off the shelf adapters I can design some for you.
I am aware of SUV calipers and brakes being used on regular cars like the Chevy S10 being swapped into the Pontiac Fiero, and my understanding is that the Cayenne just has better Brembo brakes thats all, I am consideing the pros for suspension but I am sure that there are ways to upgrade the brakes by doing swaps.

anywho. if you want just big brakes for looks your best bet is rear S calipers from maybe a 911 and brembos up front. if not maybe the six pots. do you have cayenne calipers sitting around or something? is that why you are set on using them? if not its probably a waste of time and looks.
chevy s10 brakes into a fiero is hardly comparable to cayenne brakes into a boxster. for starters the s10 is basically a car in the first place and are crappy chevy brakes to begin with.

What power upgrades, 3.4? Do 20's fit? That might be pushinit, 19's might fit better, plus the calipers and rotors will fill them out better. And if u find a way to mount cayenne calipers there's someone over on rennlist (no relation) trying to unload a set. 996/boxster s brakes would be a much easier upgrade but wouldn't look near as cool.

after all the hastle and time trying to put on cayenne calipers and find a rotor that will fit you lug pattern and has proper offset youd probably have spent more money than if you bought a brembo big brake kit. its tried and tested and will bolt on in a few hours, youll be much happier than spending weeks with your car on blocks trying to cluster something together. and 20's.... porsche engineers spent countles hours redisgning the suspension of the 987 models to make just 19's work properly. you will not be happy with the ride and the performance. it may look good to some people but that is all they are good for.
