some great Info if you are wanting to install a aftermarket steering wheel
I thought I would share some hard to find info that has taken me tons of time and effort to find out about installing a aftermarket racing steering wheels on our Cayman/Boxsters .This will save you LOTS of time here if you are interested in doing this mod to you car
FIRST -You need a worksbell hub designed for the 997 and 987 This is by far the best hub you can get for any Porsche. They make both the standard length one and the short version designed for use with a quick release.
You can call/order at Go Tuning Unlimited 714-997-1114. The price is $260 + Shipping for the standard size hub ,the Short hub and Quick Release is $340.00 plus shipping . They are AKA GT Tuning and are a Board sponser here on this site so a trusted and proven company .
dont waste you time with anything else in regards to the HUB and Quick Release as I did .The worksbell includes a resistor that dissables your drivers side air bag and its TOP QUALITY .
I took me a week to find out that worksbell will ONLY offer the Porsche Hub and quick release products to only a select few vendors nation wide ,and they have to be a proven Porsche specialist only .so GT Unlimited is the place to go .trust me
Steering wheels are dime a dozen ,come in all different colors, sizes and shapes but If I may plug ONE place to go for a really unbelievable deal and a top quality product is OMP USA .You have to act fast as I did and you can get lucky .
Go to Google shopping after plugging in OMP Steering wheels , you will occaisonally see a BLOW OUT deal of some inventory from OMP America.
They had 42 wheels just the other day and they are all gone .
I got a OMP Superturismo wheel LIMITED EDITION with red stiching and some red sides made only 1 year in a limited production for $99.00
This wheel retails for $350.00 and the normal looking superturismo wheel sells for $299.00 .The wheel has 2 active buttons that can be wired in to activate 2 different functions on your car .
for me it will be the HORN and the HiGH BEAMS
Hope this info helps
Rock on !! Peter

any chance you found a DIY in the steering wheel removal?
i plan on replacing my stock wheel with one of the refurbished ones.
from what i can see, the only issue i have is finding the tool that unscrews the wheel center nut.

the hole on the bottom of the wheel. the hole gives you access to a steel rod that runs the circumference of inner part of the wheel. i then stuck a small flat head screwdriver in the hole and pushed hard on the rod and found that the rod will decompress and allow the horn and airbag to just pop out. then there is just one electric plug to disconnect. Then you need a torx 55 to just unscrew the wheel right off with a extended socket wrench. this is how the steering wheel comes off
