All the slightly used 2011 Boxster Spyders back on market?!

I was thinking of picking up a slightly used 2011 Boxster Spyder. I start looking and there are quite a few slightly used ones coming back on the market as one owner cars with 1000-5000 miles. Anything going on here!?!?

The economy or something about this car?

Any ideas?

I know there are few owners on here! How are you liking them or not?!

TIA

I'm guessing the top is too much trouble, its really a fair weather car only,
I heard the top leaks, when out in the rain, its too cumbersome to put down or up, there is no air conditioning. That's just my thought as to why people are getting rid of it. I could deal with it but my checkbook can't

1. The top is simple to put on- if you are going to complain about the top, this car is not for you. This is a true Purist's car.

2. There is air-conditioning, it's an option that most cars will have.

3. The top does not leak in the rain.

You may want to gain some knowledge before posting about a car you clearly do not know about- my 02 cents

It is by far the best Porsche model they are producing at the moment. This is a raw and pure sportscar, as it is perfect in every way. Buy one if you are able to. Dealers are not able to order any for 2012- the rumor is that it might only be 2011 car (only roughly 400 in the USA). Thats perfectly fine by me $$$$. At the very least drive one and you will understand why some guys have traded in their GT3's for them.

Any options that you wish you had or didn't really need getting?

I hope no 911ers see your Best Porsche comment

Do you have any incite as to why people are returning these things within 1k miles? I am looking at about 4 with all the same scenario! Of course good for me as they have taked the initial hit of driving them off the lot!

Top leaking while in motion or parked in one of the FL downpours!?

I could see some people's laziness of not wanting to get out and put up the roof. Some just prefer the push button ease, I guess.

Just like with any car, i'm sure people buy it then need the next big thing. I bought mine with 317 miles on it, and the other guy took a $10k hit. The only reason he sold it was because a new Ferrari came in that he wanted fast.

I have the sport buckets and absolutely love them. They fit the car soooooo much better than the standard sport seats. My car has full leather which is also really nice and the factory short shifter (great option) (painted roll bar, sound package plus,bi xenon, ACC, UAI, dials painted red)
The only thing I wish my car had was the PSE. I like a little louder exhaust. I plan on adding this later.

As for the 911 guys seeing it.... who cares. I was a 911 guy and still am. I just know a great looking/handling car when I drive it. Even the Editor from Excellence says it is the best Porsche model they make.
This car is built for the true sports car aficionado. If you see anyone driving a Spyder, you know they are crazy about great "Driving" cars. No "Posers" would want a manual top, that is not automatic car wash friendly.

The top does not leak from any rainstorm even at highway speeds- I know this for a fact.

Thanks, I have been tossing around the seats as the used ones have both. I wish I had sports exhaust on the panamera and so I am really looking for that here!

Actually, I think a little struggle with the top is fun. Will remind me of the old day of the Parent's 912 Targa and the 944 roof.....anticipating the rain and making the call to put it up! Of course X2.

Any pics around of your car?

Thanks again!!!

Personally, I would love to get a spyder... but I have a carport, not a garage. On top of that, I've been caught in the sudden rain storms where the convenience of the power top made a difference. I have no doubt it's the best Boxster ever... though it's not for everyone.

Cars could be coming online as demos or trade-ins, or some may find them too spartan... I wouldn't worry too much about the reliability of the Spyders... the Porsche has been refining the car/platform for over 10 yrs. Good luck with your search & enjoy!

I was looking hard at a spyder, but realized that I need an all-weather DD more than a fair-weather toy. Some day, though, I'll pick up a spyder. Or whatever the next best thing is.

The top is a bit of a PITA the first couple times I played with it in a dealership on leave. But it's still nothing compared to the top on my dad's 77 MGB

+1000

I second everything he said. It is an awesome car and the detail of the assembly and fit is that of a car costing twice as much. A few suspension tweaks and it is a potent track weapon.

The top is easy. It does not leak. Most all cars have A/C. A track day in my Spyder is exactly as enjoyable as with my RS. And precious few cars are as beautiful to look at.

No idea why used ones are hitting the market as you claim? Perhaps sellers trying to beat the winter season?

only option I would consider installing is the sport exhaust. here is a good video with one of the cars equiped with the sport exhaust and sound samples at ~1:40min and ~2:40min

In my opinion, for the Spyder owners to come down hard that the car is nothing short of perfect, unfortunately hijacks what could actually be an interesting discussion. Don’t get me wrong. I think the car is super cool, but as someone who needs a daily driver, in not always perfect weather, I know the car is not for me. (But I would love a chance to drive one!)
Ultra wealthy people with little common sense may explain the occasional car being sold, but not many at the same time. (The car is rare to begin with.)
Maybe location has something to do with why some of the cars are coming back on the market. Are the used cars harder to find in places where they can be enjoyed year round?

The Spyder is a great car, my favourite Porsche to date. I plan on keeping mine for a long time. I love my GT3 but the Spyder on the open highway with the OEM sport exhaust is intoxicating.

Most everyone who wanted one, has one. I have left the top down, or just used the larger portion. The back part of the top was on only when we bought the car. It's never been on since. I have sport exhaust. It's great. White car with paddles, painted console, and adaptive seats. I would let it go if you have interest.

I doubt people are wanting rid of them before winter. I look forward to those days with heated seats and the top down. If you live in Michigan, different story.

I think what happened is the same as the GT3 RS. Everyone thought that the cars would stabilize or hold value. The economy kept that from happening, and a ton of people got worried and bailed to avoid loss. I believe the cars are stable in value now and may stay that way a while.

I love the car. It is plenty quick and plenty fast. Almost as much fun to drive as a GT3.
