I'm looking for the perfect 911TT as my next car, but I'm also contemplating picking up a slightly used 987.2 Cayman S instead (they'd be around the same price).

I went to the local dealer tonight and drove an '08 S with a tiptronic (yuck). I didn't really get a perfect idea of the car as there was a ton of traffic, but I certainly wasn't disappointed by anything. The ride was a bit rough, but I'm used to that. I think having 18s rather than 19s would help. I'm going to have to get another test drive somewhere where I can get some real cornering done and get acquainted with a 6speed car rather than a slushbox in traffic.

Practically blogging here since I don't really have a question, but now I'm on the hunt for both a great 996TT or a nice recent Cayman S in Meteor or Atlas Gray with an LSD. If I don't get a turbo I may have to get a Capristo exhaust so at least I sound fast.

 

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm bouncing back & forth as to which model to get as a first Porsche. It might be a fun challenge to get a Cayman and see just how much I could squeeze out of it with a twin turbo kit, etc., but overall any 911tt is probably more bang for the buck. What I really need to do first is put a little hypnosis on the spouse. [must...have...Porsche...]

 

I'm sure you know this, but the 987.2 started in 2009, so you test drove a first generation Cayman.

 

Yes I am aware, but it's the only used one they had on the small lot. I'd never driven any Cayman before so I thought it would suffice for an initial drive (I still need to drive a newer one in different conditions). How different is the updated one from the original one other than the obvious of looking a lot better?

 

Increased HP with DFI, improved oiling system, PDK available, upgraded electronics with bluetooth, Ipod available, upgraded Nav/PCM. More refined suspension.

T he 2009 Cayman concerns the newly-shaped rear tail lights that are combined with a reversed license plate holder (...) and a slightly different lower air vents. Up front, Porsche's lazydesigners reprofiled the Cayman's headlamps and added a set of LED daytime running lights. While they were at it, they also restyled the air-vents by removing the body-colored rods.
The outside mirrors are also larger then the gen 1 version
