Question Sachs dual mass flywheel

I have an '05 987 S with 26,000 miles. Bad rattling noises coming from the bell housing/ engine area & dealer advises that these flywheels go bad with age?
Apparently there is a gel substance between the two pieces that leaks or goes bad ?? ... I haven't worked on cars since I was a youngster, and this seems wierd to me ... has anyone had experience with these flywheels failing ?

I do hear a lot of stories about people having their flywheels become two-piece flywheels. My flywheel has run its course and is getting replaced tomorrow with a lightweight flywheel and new clutch kit.
