Picked up my first Porsche yesterday
Hello all!
I've been lurking 6speed for quite some time and am finally the proud owner of a Black/Tan 2003 Boxster S. I flew down to San Diego yesterday and drove her back up to the Bay Area yesterday. It was awesome experience getting to know the car! I test drove non-S Boxsters and the difference is truly night and day. The S has very strong low end and top end power. Long, sweeping on ramps are a joy! I left it in 6th gear most of the time and if I had to pass anyone on the freeway, all I had to do was slowly and surely lay on the gas pedal to easily pass. I'm excited to be part of the club now and look forward to learning and sharing my experiences with you all!
Just a little bit of background about my car addiction. I've always been caught by the aftermarket bug no matter what car I had at the time. I started off toying with 5 liter Mustangs in the late 80s and then moved onto various Honda/Acuras, LS/VTECs, etc in the early 90s. I took a break for awhile and then jumped to a 1969 Firebird, dumped in a 455 and backed it with a 4spd Muncie. I still have the car but only drive it once in awhile since it gets somewhere near 8 mpgs. After awhile I missed the handling of the import cars but definitely wanted something different and more refined. Because of my budget, I narrowed my choices down to an E46, S2000 or a Boxster. I decided I wanted to try something totally different so decided to go mid-engine. And since I can't afford a Lambo or Ferrari just yet, I went with the Boxster. So glad I did! I think the S will be an awesome platform to modify on.
First thing on the agenda is a trip to Flintworks in Campbell for the IMS retrofit. Then there are a few minor things the car needs before I'm off to the mod bug, yet again!
Pics will be posted soon!
Cheers,

Thank you for the warm welcome! I look forward to meeting people and joining in on local events! The weather has been crappy in the bay area so I wasn't able to take pictures yet. I'll definitely take some when the sun comes out!

Thanks for welcome! Hopefully when the rain stops I can take better pics. I'm glad I was able to find this color combination. The tan leather will look awesome in the sun with the top down. I can't wait till the local summer drives to enjoy this thing more!
Welcome, I too played with a 5.0 Mustang while I worked at Saleen & my daily driver was a 1967 Firebird 400 but I sold them both to buy my 1st Porsche 9 years ago a Boxster S. Once you've had bigblock power you can't go back! Now mine is 3.6L I hesitate to ask, but surely you took Hwy 1 home??
Congrats on the new car. I had Alden @Flintworks do a clutch, RMS, and LWFW, sadly no IMS bearing as my 05 BS had the newer type bearing. Alden and crew are so friendly, top notch work, even though the LWFW did not mate with the new clutch. Tranny dropped again for right clutch kit. Give them my regards, Charles.

that is a great car
