Manifold, you sound like your doing ok... You and your wife should check out the Porsche Driving Experience... I did it at Barber motorsports.. I took two / two day classes back to back.. 4 days total...
This a great intro into tracking..Hurley Haywood and staff are awesome...
But u basically drive the whole line up ...on one of the greatest scenic tracks.. In a controlled environment.. It's pretty fn cool...
It was a very cool experience..do the two day class.. With a friend or wife and enjoy it.. It's worth it.. Very cool people attend it... Check it out...
I did it because I wanted to buy a turbo ... Then a gt3 then I realized I belong in a cayman r until I know what f I'm doing.. But all in all not a waste of time or money.. I'm gonna go back and do the three day course soon

Yes, the wife and I do plan to attend the Porsche school, probably this year.

I did the AMG driving academy (one day) last year at Lime Rock, and it was awesome. Very informative and well organized with lots of modules (braking, skidpad, slalom, drag race, autocross, track, etc.), and all of the instructors were pro racers.

We're also doing autocross this season. Lots of fun with the CR, inexpensive, very low risk, and a nice complement to the big track.

Nice.. Have fun ... Enjoy your cars.. Sounds like your doing the right thing..
I come from 20 years of motocross n 7 years of road racing as well..
I do question myself on why did I buy a brand new car to learn on.. But I had to have a Porsche ... The wife said sell your race bikes n you can buy your gt3..
Well I sold my $25k gsx r 750.. And I've been pissed ever since I sold it..
But I love Sebring ...and Daytona makes me feel like a 12 yr old kid... Can't wait to go back there..
Ages n stages for me... Good luck n hav fun... The C R is a great car to learn from... But it would be nice to have a back up one on standby..
I do trailer mine by the way... Rent a hauler from uhaul for the weekend..
Peace of mind.. That way I can drive faster and a little more aggressive..

I checked my policy and ran it by my agent, but as long as it was instructor led, I was covered. Double check your policy, but that is my coverage.

Great to hear this, gives me hope. BTW, when you're ready trade your GT3 for my CR, just let me know! (OK, more the wife's CR, but she can live with a GT3 ).

I wish I could have both! The GT3 is just plain raw and crazy while the CR is nimble and confident. When I get around to wanting less raw and crazy, I will take you up on that offer! It may take me a while, however.

I've tried three track insurance companies and found the best rates and great customer service here: http://www.ontrackinsurance.com/index.aspx

The insurance company owner is an ex-racer and understands the business!

I've used ontrackinsurance.com before as well and have been happy with their process and service. Lately, I've been using Lockton (http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/) because their prices are similar but they have a lower deductible (5%) for me.

Most insurance companies have wised up and excluded all track incidents, so to play it safe, get track insurance. You'll feel better and have more fun out there!

I had an insurance underwriter and claims person both look at my policy, and they both think I'm covered by my regular insurance. IIRC, the policy is with Nationwide.

Since I'm not trying to drive at 10/10ths (or 9/10ths) any time soon, I think I'll trying skipping the track insurance, which runs around $300/day and would about double my cost of tracking.

CORRECTION: My insurance policy is with Hartford, not Nationwide.
