Move to a Spyder?

Need help making a decision. I have what I think is a pretty special 997S modified just right. I have a real sweet spot however for a Boxster Spyder and found one at the local dealer equipped as I would have ordered it. Its Basalt Black (like my current 997S) with 6-spd manual trans, nav, sport exhaust, sport shifter, sport seats, alcantara interior. It is a 2011 with 11,300 mi. Asking price I think is a little high - 69,880 - but have not sat down to negotiate. I don't know what my car is worth but obviously I'd have to come up with a good bit of $$ to get into the Spyder. Do you think after the honeymoon period is over I'd feel that I took a step down going from a 997S to a Boxster? I would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks!

You have to figure the dealership owns it for anywhere between $57-63k. I think you will regret getting the Spyder. Just my .02

I actually had a boxster before I moved onto a 997 and I have to tell you, I enjoyed the boxster a whole helluva lot more. Even though it lacks the power of the 997, the mid engine layout driving experience is unreal. Figure in how little the Spyder weighs, I can only imagine the driving enjoyment.

The one thing the 997 excels at is the size. The Spyder might feel a bit cramped and without a rear seat, you might feel suffocated. If you daily drive it, I would pick the 997 all day long. It just is more comfortable then the spyder.

Best of luck with your decision, it truly is a wonderful perdicament to be in.

I assume from your location that year round driving is likely and major rain is not an issue. I live in locations (Alabama and Florida) and use my car as a DD and almost got a Spyder but opted to not do that due to the heavy downpours we encounter. I waited for the Cayman R. I am a mid engine, balanced handling lover and opted more than once to not own a 997. For me...........it would be the Spyder.
