I have a '10 Boxster. Weird thing happened. The key won't lock or unlock the door. The FOB remote works fine, but when the key goes into the slot, it doesn't "catch" anything. Is there some setting that I have unwittingly set?

The key works fine in turning on the ignition but it won't lock or unlock the door. Any thoughts?

There is no setting that can affect the manual unlocking/locking of the door lock. That's a mechanical operation only. Well, the inserting/turning of the key.

If the key doesn't turn that suggests a key tumbler failure. That the same key works in the ignition tells me the key is physically ok.

If the key turns but the locks do nothing that can be an electrical problem. Water in the door, or water in the cabin, or just the most likely explanation: a "new car" problem.

The car should be under warranty. Take it in.

 

I can see this is an old thread, but my boxster 2000 model just did the same yesterday. Locked it when I got to work with no problems, then it wouldn't unlock/lock anymore when I was going home. It does turn but doesn't do the job, as if something has disconnected from inside the door. Will have to check in my days off :-).
