Cayman build

Has anyone done a build for the new cayman? Are dealers accepting orders? I know some people were getting 7 to 10 percent off 911 builds, do you think that is possible with new cayman?? Anyone have an expected build date?? Thanks!

I haven't heard yet. I really wouldn't expect any discount for the first few months unless sales were flat. Are you thinking about getting one ?

Yes I love the redesign. Has anyone gone through build process vs buying one off dealer lot? Which is better from a price standpoint? I would prefer low options. Thanks

People were getting 7-10% off of 991 builds?? That's news to me. Dealer margin is about 9.98%, so 10% doesn't make much sense (excluding back in 2008 and 2009).

You'll always be able to negotiate a better price on a dealer lot car vs. custom order. On 981, the highest most people got were 5% off on ordered cars. Rarely, some got 6% off. Rarely.

You may get a better deal at the dealer lot, but I negotiated $5K off of a well optioned CTT that was ordered to my spec. So, it's possible. All I did was call around and said I'm dead serious and sent them my options list and asked what is the best deal you can do? Then called the next place to see if they could do better. After I was happy, I went back to the dealer I took a test drive from and said if you can match, then we have a deal. Even with the low numbers for the CTT, I was still able to negotiate. I'd imagine the Cayman is no different.

If your CTT MSRP'ed is at $100k, the $5k off you received is 5% off. If your CTT was more than $100k, you received less than 5% off. To Vetman's point... most 981 orders got less than 5%...which sounds like 5% or less is what most people got, 981 or other models.

Thanks for the replies. So 3 to 5 percent seems reasonable? Just wanted to see what other people were negotiated with builds.....anyone submit an order yet for the new cayman??

My dealer actualy gives a better discount to ordered cars than for stock vehicles if it's one of the "hot" vehicles like the base Cayenne or 981 Boxster. All the others are being discounted the same. I suspect that after the first couple of months allocations, they will discount 3% or so off, then progress to 4-5%. I wouldn't expect more of a discount than that in the first 6-8 months unless they are not selling.

At this point I would say you will be lucky to get any major discount. If you dont mind waitng you might see 3-5% in a years time. It also depends on your location. In the grand scheme of things if you love the car 3-5% shouldnt really make a difference to buy the car IMO. Think about how easily you spend that amount of money sometimes without even thinking about it compared to how happy you will be to get one of the first Caymans. Best of luck with whatever route you go. I have previously sold Porsche, so if you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will be glad to help.

And remember, on a $65,000 MSRP car 5% equates to $3250. How much do you want one to drive NOW vs. waiting, say, one year? Only you can answer that.
