Boxster Spare Tire Kit from Suncoast Worth It?
SubscribeHey Folks,
I apologize in advance if this has been covered before. I came across that emergency spare tire kit from Suncoast.

My Spyder has the 19" wheels, and they claim that the 987STK kit will work just fine. However, it's pretty steep at $1200. Typically I always carry a plug-kit, compressor, slime kit, and my AAA card. But, I am wondering if that spare kit would be practical. I believe that you can only run the spare on the front, so if a flat on the rear occurs can you run the front tire on the rear without risking damage? I'm really trying to assess how useful would the spare kit really be? I had the same wheel in my 911 but luckily never had to use it.
My tire sizes are:
235/35/19 and 265/35/19

Yes, I am still under warranty and have the Porsche Roadside and AAA. But I was thinking about it as a safety thing to get me to where I need to go if something did blow out. My 911 Turbo had one in the front hatch. But, I'm really wondering if it is really that practical.
For example, if I have a blow out in a rear tire...I'd have to remove the front tire, put it on the rear (or could I) and then stow the rear on the passenger seat and then drive to a dealership...hmmmm. There are some advantages and obvious disadvantages.
I'll have to do some more thinking about that one.

AFAIK the tires don't fit in the trunks. So if you had a blowout and changed to a spare, you'll be carrying the wheel on the passenger seat...! For me that ruled out a spare.
Thanks Vetman. Good point.

fwiw, when I'm going very far from home I carry a 986 spare in the front trunk. I also carry a big knife so that I could cut away the tire if it were shredded. I'm OK with carrying a wheel in the passenger seat...Originally Posted by the_vetman
